Hi all,

So I have my hands on this nikkor set of primes, that I, for the most part, really like, and would love to use on the scarlet. However, these things stick out of the body like 3 inches or so, and the way the LWS 15mm rods are connected to the brain, I am having trouble biting them with my FF!

In my ignorance, I can't figure out a way of really making this set up work, since, if I bite on the outside, matte box cannot get close enough at all to the lens. If i bite on the inside, well, I cant bite on the inside because the brackett for the 15mm rails from wooden camera is right there!

A picture is worth a thousand words they say... well here is two:

As you can see, my FF is bulkier than I wish, but I have tried others... (no 0.8 pitch on the gears yet, ignore that part)

Any suggestions or really obvious info that I am missing much appreciated!

I have a Petroff FF that works with all of my short Nikkors with matte box. The beauty of it is that the gear assembly can flip around so the gear can be either to the front or rear of the gear block. It can also provide focus reversing so pulling focus will mimic most other lenses. I think Zacutto sells the Petroff under the Zacutto name. The one I have looks like the high end one. I have a dedicated Duclos gears for each lens, which really helps, but the mod 0.8 gear does seem compatable with most rubber focus and zoom bands on the Nikons. Hope this helps.

I was having the same problem with my setup and found that top rods really help things out.

Can you get extra wide FF rings somewhere that will extend from the focus ring to the front of the lens so you can use setup 1? Also I went and got bolts to replace the quick release knobs on the 15mm mount which helps. Everything seems to collide with these and I never find myself having to use these knobs often anyway.

Thank you all for the replies! What i am hoping is for a solution that does not need a FF exchange... In terms of making my lens longer by adding a thicker ring, I could, and will try it... but it does look like unfortunately I might need around 2 inches longer...

And as much as I could probably cover that gap between lens and matte box, having them filters so far away from lens makes me feel a bit weird...

I looked into that briefly, but for some reason now I can't remember I was not convinced. Coulld you post pics maybe?

You can use the nikkor lense hood/ sun shade. Its made out of Aluminium . It fits on the front of your lense like a filter ring. It makes your lense "longer" so there is more space for follow focus etc.. Its called nikkor "HB-....." There are also some 3rd party manufactors. Find out Than use a donut of your mattebox.

e voila!

This may be the best solution....I'm having the same problem and considered upgrading to 19mm or 15mm studio rails but that's an expensive transition. I just ordered wooden camera top rod mount from Abel Cine.
