Has anyone tried using Angenieux with Arri Bayonet mount lenses on RED ONE? I see some Arri Bayonet to PL mount adaptors available and someone I know has lots of those lenses. Would it be something worthy for 2K shoot? Maybe for Scarlet with B4 mount adaptor be good?

Should work well in PL mount. Which models of Angenieux lenses are you looking at?

David,

Thank you for your input. I'm going to find out what he has soon.

I was an AC right when the PL mount came out and lots of people used the PL mount adapters and they worked great. But as time has passed most of those lenses seem like they are the older school with less coatings and designs that were of the pre-computerized era. To me the smaller the image area the higher the resolution needs to be. Almost any Arri non PL mount lens is older than 1983.

Sounds good Martin, I saw some products here and there on web, but good to know you are happy with Chrosziel.

Brian, yes that was one of the things I wanted to hear. Although the old lenses might give you certain feel, but I was thinking they won't be rivaling the new lenses.

This is another subject, but what was the math for the 2/3 Scarlet? 2/3 is equivalent to super 16mm then these old lenses with 2/3 Scarlet with PL mount would be interesting (I don't know what happens to 3K recording).

I was almost thinking for S35 Scarlet for myself, but if 2/3 Scarlet works well with these old film lenses it might be pretty interesting and I also have a Canon B4 mount broadcast lens, too. RED ONEs should be upgraded to EPIC X anyway, but it's nice to have smaller choice to be more flexible in shooting, so instead of going with larger sensor Scarlet, stay with 2/3 with the ability to do 3K 120fps for x-treme sports and music video shooting.

Hey,

I've used the 25-150 T3.9 Ang and it performs well in good light at stops of 5.6 and above. There is some chromatic aberration at the wider angles. I think this is due to the nature of the shape of the rear elements and the way the light collects and travels and so is inherent in the glass. I sold it on as I have the 20-100 Cooke and the 25-250 Cooke together with a set of Cooke panchro's, 18mm-75mm, that all match wery well. I also have an almost mint 25-100 T3.5 with a hard PL mount adaptor. Once again very nice slightly stopped down.

I don't use these on the more commercial jobs, except with very discerning and knowledable clients who appreciate the subtlety of the image thay provide. I tend to use them on promo's where they give a great image, flare beautifully and give us the option of shooting 2 cameras with primes or two zooms without extra hire charges.

Mike,

That is the kind of scenario I was thinking, thank you for enforcing it.
