  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Old 5"6 red screen vs dp6 or tv logic 5"6 ?

no, in terms of sharpness and brightness, the dp6 kicks its ass. I would imagine that the tv logic goes one better. I haven't used the tv logic but have been hearing good things about them. I do own a dp6.

I recommend the 056-WP.
I used both lots of time, and honestly the 056WP is just... awesome, very sharp, very pro and solid.

Dp6 is great. Tvlogic uses the same panel but the DP6 has better features and is field upgradeabe. Its also a lot cheaper than the tvlogic which size wise is also bigger.

I have TVLogic VFM-056WP and I think that it's worth the premium price. Waveform scope, audio level display, extensive marker support... I'm not sure if DP6 has any of these. Compatibility with a calibration utility is more important to me than user-upgradeability.

You mean same resolution panel, or its actually the same panel?

same exact panel according to reports....TV logic is just more "professional", with scopes and calibration utilities. I know SmallHD is constantly updating the monitor firmware so I assume down the road all these features could be added. I would personally get the SmallHD and put the rest of the cash to another accessory for the camera since I dont need waveform or audio level meters for my focus puller's monitor....

I just got an email that SmallHD is having a promotion right now for $300 off the price of the DP6 with free shipping to the US and Canada. You will have to go to their facebook page and click Like to receive the discount.

$599 for a B Stock DP6! cant beat that price.

Yeah I got the same email and caved and bought one.

I just bought a DP4 EVF to use as my EVF for the Scarlet - it works great on my 5D for now. I'm waiting on my 5" Touch as well, so I'll decide which one I want to keep when it comes! The DP6 is great though.

Also, its worth noting that in April they are going to offer a reduced price for upgrading the DP6 to SDI - which is usually $1350 for the SDI version. The cost for the whole thing will be less than $1000 - pretty great pricepoint.

After some very very long tought
I have decided to buy a Red lcd 5,6" (not touch screen), not a dp6 or a tv logic : I could have bought a 7" red lcd !!!
Why : Because i don t like the idea of touching a screen for many reason .
i prefer not leaving my hand from the side handle when recording , and the side handle seem to be quickest way to navigate when you get use to it ,
the 5,6" lcd from red has a higher resolution than the touch screen ,it is powered by the camera ( when the tv logic and dp6 need and other batteri headache ) and leave the hd sdi free for an external recorder or for a client lcd.

Well my TV Logic passes through the SDI signal for output. It's the best small ref monitor you can have.

After reading the thread about HDMI problems I'm going to be very certain that the Scarlet is capable of outputting to any third party monitor at all before I spend more money. Has anyone here actually done it? In particular, I'd like to know if it supports a DP4 via HDMI.
