  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Okay, guys. . . this has to be a world's first: RED camera captured by Google maps!

Hey guys. . .

. . . chalk this one up to either Big Brother truly is watching you (anywhere and everywhere!), or just dumb luck, or both.

In the summer of 2008, we were way out in the prairie of western Kansas in the tiny little town (population 93!) of Belpre, Kansas, shooting our feature film, "Works in Progress."

Incredibly, and unbeknownst to us, the Google maps truck happened to pass by us and snap about 15 shots of our crew at work on a shot. I have attached screen snaps of two Google maps shots and the actual shot that resulted from that camera set up. I'm the guy in the Hawaiian shirt. DP Seth Iliff and AC Ryan Breitenbach are tending to RED One #791 ("Lewis").

I mean, how cool is that?

:-)

we were shooting kelly clarkson music video"my life would suck without you" 8 or 9 months ago with wayne isham as the director and the google suv drove by too...i keep looking and i haven't seen it, so maybe it didnt make the cut...good job.

The funny thing is, we didn't even know that the Google folks has passed us by. . . and not once (approaching from the north), but twice (approaching from the east)! But in a town with NINETY-THREE people? Come on. . . that's about the last place on earth I'd expect to see Google!

I'm just glad they didn't blow our shot.

The impressive thing is what you see on Google maps is actually still frames from a continuous HD 360 degree video. You can see the continuous video at Google... Well I mean if you know somebody.

Ha ha ha! That is so awesome and I think the day I took off to go tornado chase :)

Ohh, I remeber you scouting that location and talking to the neighbors a day or two before :)

The location is anything but top secret. If you want to see the whole sequence, here's what you need to do:

1. Go go http://www.google.com/maps

2. Do a search for "Belpre, KS"

3. Click the little "Street view" icon.

4. Head straight north (by clicking the little arrows) on Larned Street (you'll be heading toward the Belpre grain elevator, which was on the other side of the "building" we were shooting at). Enjoy!

5. To see an early version of the editing sequence resulting from that shoot, visit http://www.filmlook.tv/wip.mov and move over to about the 6 minute mark. (There have been a number of changes in that sequence, but it's pretty much all there.)

Enjoy!
