  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Ohmygosh...

I love the way you manage to convey no useful information  You ARE the master.

Ha peeps always go crazy when a change is announced. Making outlandish speculation. I'm happy waiting and the timing of the release is perfect maybe even a little early so yeah by all means take your time.
(...)

Hehe. Yeah!

I love the outlandish stuff.
I saw the EPIC spider walk around the desert.
We dream, RED teases, we dream more, later this year reality happens.

Then we dream for our audiences with the tools we can afford to buy.

As for my wallet, I hope to buy a fixed scarlet in 2010, if I do. That's my personal schedule, but that's just €0.02 worth until I sign the dotted line. So waiting is good too.

FF35 Epic X

FF35 Epic X

Just when you thought you have settled in to your normal routine and begun to think you know what RED is doing... we have gone and changed the playing field one more time.

As long as you are making a few changes...

Please consider applying the X factor -- the special upgrade package w/3 bonus modules -- to all of the Epic models, or at the very least the FF35.

I really want the FF35 but I also hate to miss out on the fantastic extras you are most kindly including in the Epic-X upgrade package.

Thank you.

... unless it was a 3k S35 with a fixed zoom close to the size and quality of the 18-50mm. Probably more like the 50-150mm but covering 18-85mm....

That would be sick!

Um, the smell nearly knocked me out. Wonderful.

Graeme

I've been working on a module for the Epic/Scarlet system that has been going under the rather unwieldy but descriptive codename of the 'Red Optimized Thermoelectric Grain Utilizing Thermophoresis'.

The R.O.T.G.U.T. module will replace the active cooling system for the sensor and ASICs with a peltier effect interface that transfers the heat to a micro-batch distillation module that sits directly behind the brain. I will be selling the mash in small packs that are dumped into the unit at the beginning of the shooting day. After ten hours of uptime with the camera, it will have distilled the mash into seven ounces of 140 proof grain alcohol. This will allow the camera crew to relax after a hard days work.

For a higher volume production, I will be making fractionating column modules with customizable vapor-liquid equilibriums. These will be delayed due to complaints from the sound department, I had to switch from a highly efficient spinning band system to the less efficient but much quieter packed column configuration.

I was hoping to have a working prototype available at NAB but I still haven't perfected the pressure maintenance subsystem which has lead to four instances of unplanned rapid disassembly of the module.

In a completely unrelated subject, I find myself in need of another assistant to help with the testing.

Not peaty at all... Smooth, heavy on the sherry, quite sweet. Probably too sweet for me. I prefer the Aberlour A'Bunadh.

Graeme

At room temp or a little warmed up.

Graeme

See you all at NAB- should be a great event. :)

But have you tried the Glenlivet 16 year Nadurra cask strength? Better than the Aberlour or Macallan cask strengths :-)

the goverment needs to have JIM J head GM, and the other car companies restucture, and next generation automobile. With his design background from Oakley the cars will look sweet. he can also get some tips from Apple on how to make the cars fit in ones pocket. We could all save on parking permits.

If Jim built cars, they would need no gas or wheels. They would levitate using Area 51 alien technology.

Not Area 51 technology. It'd be pure Californian, home-grown, in-house Red technology. Remember the Red break-in in 2006? Aliens.

Or by hiring Unlikely people to head up the programme. Ie. Product designer from Dyson, Organic Carrot farmer and a tuba player. =)

What's this about a RedUser event in Vegas? Where, when, and how do I get in?? :D

Jim has demonstrated proven ability to lead a company that's basically a R&D facility with a very small number of absolutely choice employees. He's done this with Oakley, he's done it with RED, and I think he's also done it with his NASCAR racing team and other ventures.

He gains the love and affection of his employees through letting them do what they could only dream of doing at their other jobs. I also suspect he pays very well, and expects top performance. He appears to have very low staff turnover - I recognize names from the early days of RED who are posting here to this day. And what other company has "Bring your lizard to work day" or "Make a scorpion out of a camera day"? These things might sound totally bizarre to outsiders, but boy do they build loyalty!

You tell me -- how similar does this model look to GM? Are there many skills that can move from upscale boutique companies to an organization that's so slothful it's virtually impossible to manage successfully? I can only imagine the chaos in the hallowed halls of GM once "Bring your lizard to work day" was implemented!

Most of all, I don't think there's anything fun about running GM. A challenge, sure. Fun, gosh, not at all.

Jim's earned his fun. He loves building cameras and showing them off. I'm pretty sure he's staying with RED, which showcases his enormous strengths in a way GM could not.

I hope we all agree that should not change :-).

This sounds good... but truth is that I just threaten to shoot them all in the back of the head if they don't get the job done... or even think about leaving. :-)

Jim

That certainly answers some of the questions I have wanted to ask you about your management style!
