  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

ohhh thank god.. 3d becoming a joke!

3D is the 8-track of today, soon to be so yesterday. I saw the preview of the Piranha movie last night; Richard Dreyfuss must really need the money to do such violence to the memory of Jaws.

Sure, 3D will hang around after the fad dies, but unless some amazing new technology arrives, it's always going to be a rather tawdry gimmick.

Good shooting and best regards,

Leo

Piranha was not shot in 3D, it was converted in post. Although, in my opinion, this type of cheesy horror movie is perfect for 3D. I feel like this could be a lot of stupid fun. This movie would not have been made if it were not for gimmicky 3-D.

I don't think 3D needs new technology, it needs someone with vision and talent to use it in a way that no one has ever seen. James Cameron showed you what the new 3D technology could do - completely immerse you into an alien planet. Now the next guy has to move the a bar a little higher. It's gonna happen. The first batch of movies inspired by the use of 3D in Avatar are still a good 2-3 years away. We haven't seen 3-D used for live broadcast and sporting events yet.

3D is not a fad this time around. I'm not saying it's gonna to replace 2D, but it's not going away. It's only a matter of time before someone makes the Lawrence of Arabia of 3D. A movie that make you go, holy crap this is what 3D is suppose to be. Hopefully this happens before they re-release Lawrence of Arabia in 3D.

Reminds me, when I was still in school for Computer Animation last year - I recently transferred to the Motion Picture Production program at another school - I was also their main content and copy writer under work study. I ghost wrote this article on 3D under the Computer Animation department chair's name. Might find some useful context...http://www.dmac.edu/2010-3-d-hits-critical-mass

The world cup two months ago was shot live in 3D.

Missed the 3D broadcast, but people said it helped with the common issues associated with diagonal shots at goal on wides where the ball size is little help for depth perception. I would be interested in this application if it is dialed in properly. No matter how much futbol you watch you still stand up when you think it might have gone in. :)

I took a look. 3D broadcast is ready. Very promising territory. The ball size can be little help with depth, but not everything other. Not exactly the masses around the stadium, but the players. Most surprising was to see the shallow DOF to shine. I am totally in about 3D. And I was not, a year ago or so. Corrado (Silveri) has a demo shown @ RED DAY in Rome that speaks by itself. David Bush did a wonderful job, best 3D demo ever seen so far.

Yes, the 3D broadcast stands here to win.
