After months of trying to sell my wife(and business partner) on the scarlet....I have had a breakthrough!!!!!

Today.....she said I could get a scarlet when they come out! (Im whipped what can I say.) Plus she handles the business finances.

Im not sure why she said yes....maybe it was numerous pages of info I made her read.....or it could be the day after day hounding about it.

Do you guys think I should get this in writing? haha

I am now super ready for it to be released.....

haha, that's big news! i recommend finding a great way to show your appreciation...

Congrats Matt, your wife won't regret it when she sees the wonderful images you'll get and all the dump trucks full of money that show up at your door for all the great work you'll be able to do.

Welcome to the group!

Ask her to let you buy a flying car. She'll probably agree to that too.

hahaha, not hardly :w00t: BUt I did dmarry someone with an amazing finance sense. Without her I would have tons of stuff I don't really need! She keeps me grounded but makes sure I get to have a little bit of fun now and then buying new equipment.

Not to worry, by the time Scarlet comes out all your children will be grown up and out of the house. You will be receiving your pension and Scarlet will be good for filming all those folk at the senior citizen center.

you guys are horrible! haha.....I thought I was going to be welcomed with open arms and shouts of congratulations!!!!

Working versions of the scarlet ARE OUT THERE....I also read somewhere that the issues with getting parts from overseas has been "fixed" so it' only a matter of time. I don't think RED would have spent so much time and energy developing a product that they don't intend on releasing. The way I see it......they just want to make sure that when the time comes they are delivering the best product and I appreciate that as a consumer.

Now thats not to say that i don't REALLY REALLY REALLY want my hands on one now!

I believe the Epic-S will be finished before the Scarlet, and that's not out yet so you still have a while to wait.

The SCARLET is most likely just about ready for mass production, if not completely ready if the lens-part supply issue has been solved - that is not the case for the EPIC-S as I've understood it. They still need to break some eggs before they got the whole board's thing down. So it's more likely that if you want an EPIC-S rather than a SCARLET-F...you'll have a while to wait.

oh hahahaha....well.....she said I could get one but we don;t really have the money....so.....I am trying to sell her to get my payment squared away....

On a more serious note...I am a few years out of college...have a panasonic HVX200 that I've done all my work on up to this point...and it's fine for now but I will want to upgrade to scarlet whenever it comes out. I know there is still a lot of questions revolving around this little camera including price but.....I need some help determining if this really is within my reach......

This question is by no means wanting a for sure answer but i know there are people out there with A LOT more experience purchasing professional (expensive) equipment. My biggest purchase to date was original HVX. Am I being unrealistic to expect to be able to purchase the Fixed Lens Scarlet with basic accessories for under $10k? Just what you think....Im not asking what the price is going to be....just if I am close or completely out of the ballpark?

I think it totally depends on what you're definition of "basic accessories" would be. There's a lot of different configurations for every user, for different tasks and individual needs. Also, unlike the HVX, the SCARLET doesn't record on DV-tape, so you also have to consider the rather substantial cost of utilizing SSD's compared to cheap DV-tapes.

I think a lot of people without problem can afford the default SCARLET package. Question is, can they afford everything else that they need for the camera to work for their individual needs? I think you REALLY need to consider the bigger picture. Perhaps go to the official RED page - go to the web-store - do a little research. You'll quickly get an overlook of the costs you might be getting yourself into and if it suits your budget.

It's a bit like if you suddenly realized you had the cash to buy a really awesome sports car that you've wanted since forever. But you wouldn't have money enough to pay for the gas, for maintenance and repairs, for the insane insurance, to keep it locked up in a dry and warm garage for the winter and also be able to pay for the car you'd need to drive instead. I know, it's a bit of a ridiculous example - but you'll probably get the point I'm trying to make here :)

The SCARLET is definitely for LOTS and LOTS of people - but perhaps not for everyone...

The following statement is a joke.

Hey Matt. why don't you close your legs because I can see up your skirt.

:)

My bad, you're right. Scarlet fixed, then Epic-S.
