Sorry, I know there are numerous similar threads, but none that i've read have had a solution for me so far.

Here's my situation:

- I have 12 clips showing up as 'OFFLINE' in Red Cine X build 17.
- my original media is still intact on the cards, but those 12 clips still show offline when the card is directly viewed in Red Cine X
- those 12 clips play fine via playback in camera
- i downloaded CopyVerified ( a check sum app), and re-copied the media and the checksum completes without error. Those clips are still 'offline'
- I have tried running Red Undead, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything at all. it immediately says "Done!" I'm pretty sure I'm accurately listing the input and output directories.

Help!

Thanks,

Bump!

I really need help. Leaving for another shoot tomorrow, so I need to deliver this hard drive of footage, and eventually in the near future I'm going to have to format these cards.

Why would they play in camera, but not in RED Cine X or RED Player? Checksum verifies that they are being copied correctly, and the new copies of these problem clips still read 'Offline'

Is this a problem with my camera? Are these clips repairable?

help!!!

Thanks,
Skip

thanks Russ! That at least has got RED Undead working. Now we'll see what happens after it batches through these files.

Thanks,

Glad to help. Spent a few frustrating hours trying to get Redundead to work, before trying the sudo command. Red needs to update the instructions. Not sure if this is related to Mountain Lion. I remember being able to use Redundead without the sudo command in earlier OSX versions.

Just an update. I've got a support ticket open with RED. Every card I shoot seems to have between 5-9 clips with this issues. They all play fine in the camera, are large files that look like they should work when downloaded, and then RCX and any another RED friendly software I've got won't play them.

RED Undead fixes some clips, but not all. Have reinstalled firmware, started using Secure Format each time. Still a really frustrating issue, because all the data is obviously there if they are playing in the camera.

Please respond if anyone else ever has a similar problem with their Epic.

I've had a problem like that a few times, maybe 1 clip out of every 200, where I had to use REDundead to fix it. If you're getting it on every card, you should definitely send your camera in for repair.

Russ, Skip,
Could you please explain me exactly what you type in the terminal to get Redundead working properly?
Do you just type "sudo" before the command line explained in the manual?

Ive been running REDundead via R3D data manager since it was incorporated. Im pretty sure double data does it now. might be worth a shout if you're still having issues.

update! Case Closed! Read below if you have 'offline' clips.

I was still having 'offline clips.' Sometimes i'd have a card without any, sometimes it would be as many as 10.

Over the months of dealing with RED, they discovered that the first .R3D within each clip was only 12kb, and that deleting that file would bring the clip online. This still was a little annoying to have to deal with during the download process, and left me with the fear that I had lost some data in that 12kb file.

Finally had a gap in my schedule to send the camera to RED. They had it for 2 weeks before calling me yesterday to tell me that there was nothing wrong with my camera, and that upgrading the firmware would fix my problem. This infuriated me, because I knew for a fact I was up to date. During the many months of having this problem i had gone from 4.0.10 to 4.0.12 to 4.0.18. This did not fix it. I was both pissed at how RED had dismissed the error just because they had not reproduced, and worried that I still had a malfunctioning camera.

Today however, I got an email from a friend (another Wildlife DP) who saw my REDuser post, and actually knew WHY it was happening. Apparently the faulty 12kb file is generated when using pre-record (something us wildlife guys use a lot). If you start pre-record, but then go ahead and hit record right away it generates the fault file because it hasn't had enough time to start writing any frames. Case Closed! I know now how to avoid having the issue, as well as how to fix the offline files, and have the added relief of knowing there is not data lost in that 12kb file.

Elliott - perhaps I wasn't clear in my post above, but I already was running the latest firmware, even while having the problem. No fix yet, just have to delete the broken .R3D file to bring the clip online, and take more caution not to hit record too quickly after initiating pre-record.

Skip. Thanks VERY much for posting your final solution!

THIS is what Reduser is all about

Not to let Red completely off the hook, who weren't able to help you, but I'm guessing the number of Redusers using Pre-Record is relatively very small - which means reproducing the fault can be difficult without knowing that was the mode you were using.
