Hello shooters and offline editors of RED,

I've been a long time creative offline editor, and diving into RED research for offline edit and traditional finish: shoot, offline, color correction, effects, graphic design, online, sound design, music, mix. 90% of our work is film original.

We just upgraded our two suites to AVID Media Composer 3.0 Nitris DX and FCP 6.0.4 (Dual Boot).

Any help or knowledge of this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks mucho!

"person" - it's all here............just keep reading the threads.

if you get stuck post your problems and "someone" will help

I've looked around briefly, but only to find a bunch of frustrated folks with more questions than answers. If there is a clear work flow for traditional post finish using RED it would be great to know. If there is no answer then why?

Thanks.

For Avid, read MichaelP's posts and join the RED workflow beta list. They will send you info to get you going. It's not good yet but it will all work soon. At least the company cares and is directly involved.

For FCP, read the posts of the RED team. buy Crimson. Ian Bloom (guy who made it) likewise cares and is directly involved. Apple chooses not to have anyone from the company set foot onto the board and actually talk to people. But between RED, Reduser posts and Ian you should be okay.

Also pay attention over the next couple of month, post-production options will improve and be better documented. I know that Avid is working hard at the moment on getting workflows locked down and documented, and the SDK has just hit the ground, so new tools and applications are probably not far off either.

I am able to get some R3D footage into my Avid using Metacheater and the proxy (qt ref) files. Simple enough. Also able to make EDL's using the RED16 template in EDL Manager. This should mean I can take my R3D files to a facility for finish. Problem is, they probably can't work with R3D files. Is this what RED and Avid is working on?

You have already done what you need to do to finish the project at a facility. Contact them and see if they have done any Red projects before. If they have Scratch they can work with the R3D files directly, otherwise they will need to render to DPX or another finishing format for the online and colorgrading.

But as far as offline is concerned, you're good to go.
