I was wondering what's possible with a h.264 proxy file, can you use it for offline editing in FCP? Or do we have to wait for a ProRes module for the EPIC to do that?

You can offline in h264 in FCP but why would you choose to do that? If this is RED converted material best to go to the new ProRes LT or even ProRes Proxy which is a format available in FCP7.

h264 will be a hard codec to edit with, as seen with the DSLR trend. Premiere will have a easier time with it, you will end up with smoother editing in FCP (at the moment, if there is no update on FCP by the time the module comes out) if you just stuck with the r3d proxies that the camera creates. (if they still exist by then) or you can run a very fast h264 transcode to pro res proxy or LT with mpeg streamclip. I typically use that before the E-1 plugin came out with 5d footage i receive. It works blazing fast. More importantly, the module has to exist and be on sale before you can make your conclusions, as technology, and software changes every other minute :)
