  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Terrific, Mark. Terrific!

E. :-)

Mark, the fly is amazing. How easy is the lens to use? Do you use a ring flash?

The photo attached is a long exposure shot taken from the bridge of a ship in the Weddell Sea at night. The drunken scrawl is the flight path of a Snow Petrel caught in the ship's lights. Not a great shot, but something different.
Hey Moir,
No manual aperture, You just set the magnification requirement (and shutter / iris) and off you go. I normally find the best way to steady myself, all shots tend to be hand held as bugs etc bug out, :) , by the time a tripod and slider has been set up, is to travel through the tiny focal distance shooting continuously as I go. I tend to nail the shot on the second attempt. I have lost a few decent images in this technique but results are more pleasing this way.

The lens preferred lighting is the MT24EX dual macro light. I actually prefer to hand hold a Speedlite 580EX II on an extended hotshoe cable with a diffuser cap. That way I can create and work with shadows if needed.

Cheers,
Mark.

Another from yesterday.......this guys body length was about 2mm!

Mark, thanks for the info. Looks like another lens to add to the wish list!

Nick, your last shot is stunning - what did you shoot this with?

Thanks so much for the comments. The last shot was a Nikon D40X and sigma 10-20mm zoom.

Was returning from a whited-out trip at Mt Rainier and just happened to see this scene on the way to the airport (cue screeching brakes and me with a tripod on the rain on a fwy overpass hoping the cops didn't show up :)

do swiss have special forces?.. the only airforce i thought the swiss have, it would be their bank secrecy policy.. :greedy:
an example for jarred and his new reduser policies..

Such a great composition here.

I like to photograph that park around magic hours.

Thanks for the compliment.

I love to photograph Joshua Tree as it's both beautiful and somewhat challenging as a lot of the "good stuff" is off the paths and you can't easily get in close on a lot of occasions. Haven't been in a while, so I think I need to have another trip.

The difference in the rock coloration in magic hour at JTree can be astonishing. I took some pics of some of the formations there, literally 10 or 15 mins apart and the difference is stunning (of course most people were eating their dinner the entire time and missed the whole event ...)

Some of my latest work for the swiss special forces and airforce.
Also some ad stuff I've done lately.

Nice shots. Are those real exteriors, the girl sitting on the stone and the guys with the sunset? It feels sort of comped, but still a great job. What did you use to light them with because I love the shadows and the transitions between light and shadow.

Jep we also have some real soldiers with chocolatte guns and cheese planes.
Our tanks are of pure gold and all officers wear rolex army watches. :)

Cheers

Hi Jason

All the pics are shot on location. I use bron lights (made in switzerland).
Diffrent reflectors and softboxes. I used the big 220 para umbrella on the F-18 shot. This gives you a beautifull light. You can go from ultra hard to very soft light all with just the para.
