  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Official Post Your DSLR Still Photography Thread

Peter, how does a lowly DP or shooter get hooked up with the Foundry?

Simon (the owner) was huge help on my Kurosawa project and The Foundry officially participated on it. We used the core engine of Furnace and many of the Furnace plugins in a modified workflow designed specifically for film restoration. This particular cooperation resulted in major design changes and improvements in Furnace itself. We have been close friends with Simon ever since... :)

More relevant... Can we have a similar thread with stills from RED ONE footage (that's graded and competes with these)?

This is one of my favorite still-grabs so far, not much grading [Door Gunner over Afghanistan], just love the mood it captured.

I tried out Blurb.com, and made a photo book mixing stills pulled from my RED footage and my Canon photos. The RED shots look beautiful along side DSLR photos.

OK, Here are some of my favourites

Edit: all pictures "as shot", no colour or contrast correction

Pawel - as always - brilliant work. I absolutely love the "evil" seagull, if that's what it is... :)

Thanks Peter, hehe, if this is the bird you are refering to, it is a white capped noddy, not a seagull

Cool thread - thought I would try and contribute...

I don't currently own a DSLR, just a lowcost Fuji Finepix digital camera. Looking forward to the RED DSMC though... and saving my pennies. :-)

Tom, This is outstanding, mate - probably my favourite of all. What shutter speed and f-stop?

Thanks, man.

Canon 350D
EF-S 10-22 @ 10mm
ISO 1600
45s exposure
f/3.5

In Camera Raw I cooled the temp to 3900k and used Luma noise reduction by about 25%.

Thanks, Peter.

Sure thing. It's called Barney Lake.

Location: 38.142548, -119.437040

The trailhead is a couple miles due East of Barney Lake, at Mono Village, Upper Twin Lakes, not far from Bridgeport, CA. Beautiful, amazing place! Let me know before you visit and I'll come shoot with you. :)

Speaking of which, I'm headed for Yosemite early tomorrow... Hopefully it will be nice up there!

It's behind you !!!

Holy crap Mark!

I had a view like that back in NZ from a dinghy that seamed smaller then the bloody shark. He just swam by gracefully and disappeared. I almost crap my pants... :)

Beautiful shot! Congratulations...

Cheers Peter, we had nine different sharks around the boat yesterday. I almost had a 'crimping' moment yesterday too. Playing tug 'o war with a 2500lb fish in an attempt to place a camera on its dorsal fin, I won, just!! I was almost the newest member of the South African Barefoot Waterski Association, yikes.

Cheers,
Mark.

Hahaha, Peter,
Read about the whole process, with images, on my blog:

www.camdiver.blogspot.com

With White Sharks I use a pole to deploy the cameras. Check out the Tiger Shark project where I would swim with up to 14 animals with one guy watching my back and place the systems on by hand! Love the rush.

Cheers,
Mark
