  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD

And a huge congrats to you and the team for having sent away the first "regular" (but handbuilt) Epic to someone outside the major-studio sphere.

HUGELY seconded.

RED has blown my entire worldview. I didn't think they made people like Jim anymore. You know: people that value honesty, integrity, openness and are revolutionary enough to upset the system when necessary. And in Hollywood's case, this is LONG overdue.

Thank you a MILLION TIMES over Jim and the rest of the RED team.

And Mark...thank you for posting all these bad ass photos of your cam. Awesome, dude.

Shooting the first red moon in 500 years on a winter solstice in Times Square (the focus of the worlds New Year celebration) on the first production Red Epic shipped is very poetic. THAT'S what it's all about.

What is the fan noise like in the Epic compared to the R1? I'm guessing you won't hear it much in NY exteriors right now.

+1 on this question.

omg
edit: as a carry on, crrzy

EPIC carry on - Epic, 15-40mm Optimo, 50mm RPP, SSDs, 2 x RED Bricks, 500G GDrive mini

Well after some scooping, I guess we'll know some more once the camerarentalz.com website updates. Apparently they're getting 4 of the first 10 machined EPICs.

Not sure if I would believe everything they say:

"We have RED, Epic, and Scarlet cameras"

Have they really got Scarlet cameras? Gosh. Must be that De Lorean they used.

But I also noticed something I hadn't seen before...they list the Scarlet 2/3 as being able to shoot 172 fps. Has this been confirmed somewhere? You can see it listed on their rental request form here:

Heh heh a whole buncha bullshit these guys are sprouting...

Nice looking website though :)

I believe that camerarentalz.com is under development still.

"Everything in life changes... including our camera specs and delivery dates..."

We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone with a bad attitude.

I believe they are just trying to keep up with the changes that Red is making.

I think an under construction notice is required.

Fan noise is completely adjustable.

Fan noise is independently adjustable in speeds for both standby and recording, plus auto settings of course.

Right now the lower limit setting is 35% fan speed.. as we optimize power settings that likely will go lower.

The fans are user changeable as well remember.. we have a few fan options coming soon with different size/speed/noise ratios.

Can one of the new option Fans be powerful in off to Blow the Hair of my girls, and more...:reddevil:

I'll post footage as soon as I can. Promise. I'm runnin' and gunnin' right now.

I have more behind the scenes pics - I'll try to post them in a few hours.

Screengrabs & footage in a few days hopefully. Please be patient. I'll be in the mountains without a Red Rocket - I'll do my best.

I am in love with this camera. It's too easy to shoot. 1K more pixels is a WORLD of difference. The detail in the shots when projected are just incredible.

I'm looking forward to renting the biggest damn digital screen in NYC in late Jan and projecting some EPIC footage from a 4K DCP.

Mark,
We are dying for those pics and footages. :)

just for you my friend...

Call me loco, but I really admire the quality of the design down to every last piece. Even the 1/4-20 thumbscrews were designed so well.

Just curious, how are those AR-15ish rails coming along?

How about water cooling?
Did you guys employ thermal electric cooling in the design?
Sealed phase cooling like NVidia 580?
