  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Offhollywood starts 2nd "all RED" feature -

I just saw ATONEMENT (awesome movie) in a theater and then read about shooting the film in AC issue December 2007 article "Irretrievable Deeds" by Jon D. Witmer (page 32).

Interesting and could be somehow related with "clipped highlights" discussion here.

Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey, BSC used Christian Dior black stocking to emphasize the heat light.

American Cinematographer Online edition (pages 34-35)>>>

It could be interesting if somebody try to put Christian Dior stocking on the lens with RED and to see what is the effect.

Hey, just curious... This is the Connolly Theatre in the East Village, right? I recognize the intricate proscenium detailing, since I once had to do an elaborate paint job of the whole thing for a musical I was helping to produce there... Not fun, but it ended up looking great.

The stills look fantastic, by the way. And I wish more AC's looked like yours...

Megan our AC says hello -

Hello to beautiful Megan from Vienna.

Photos attached:

1. Sphinx from the Belvedere Garden Vienna (shot with Canon 30D + Leica Summicrom R 50 mm f2, Exposure f/5.6, ISO 100, shutter speed 1/125 sec).

2. Waitresses from the Schikaneder Kino, Klub, Bar, Wien (shot with Nikon D50 + Carl Zeiss Planar T* ZF 50mm f/1.4 in wide open at exposure: aperture f/1.4, ISO 200, shutter speed 1/6 sec, no flash, handheld).

Both lenses waiting for a test with RED ONE sometimes in Jan/Feb 2008.

3. My CC à la Kodak print 2383 (express done in Shake4) of "Angel" shot from the Offhollywood project.

these are down-and-dirty "on set" grade references done by the gaffer & DP from 4K tiffs - the clipping you see is intentional - we have pulled lots of their stuff into our Scratch suite and the dynamic range in the stuff these guys are shooting is amazing -

Hi Mark,

I don't find the clipping objectionable, I was just pointing out to Emmanuel that it was clipped.

Stephen

Solid lighting. Looks like 30 million bucks.

Megan takes my breath away. Stop posting her image or my head will explode. Times sure have changed..remember when you weren't allowed to be hot and skilled at the same time?

Thank you stephen
Actually I do fancy calling clipped what is a total loss of details at capture time, while I call blown Highlights what can be an intentional pushing "towards" pure white, wich is best left to post in most case.
I should have been more precise from the top, my bad, I hope I've put a good light on my fancy now.

Emmanuel

Not bad but as I mentioned here ago that I prefer and like more

New York's eighties or Gordon Willis's "the prince of darkness"

lighting aesthetic that has a "real life" movie color/light contrast.

It's more dramatic (Rosencrantz and Guildenstern!) than an ordinary flat

and clean video image.
