Very excited to say that just a few hours ago - in Brooklyn New York - we started shooting our first shot-on-EPIC feature film - in 3D - using the ATOM rig from Element Technica. Pretty sure this is the first independent - non-studio financed feature film rolling on EPIC.

I'll start posting some behind the scenes pics later tonight (yes - we are starting the production on nights - oh joy) - OFFHOLLYWOOD is producing with Circle of Confusion.

Director of Photography is Ryan Samul - who has shot 5 features on RED including STAKE LAND which won the jury prize in the Midnight Madness section at the Toronto Film Festival and will release theatrically soon.

HELLBENDERS

Filmmaker JT Petty (“The Burrowers” and “Splinter Cell”) has begun shooting his genre-twisting new movie, HELLBENDERS, in 3D using the very latest cutting edge camera technology.

The production, which top lines Clancy Brown , Clifton Collins, and Dan Fogler as an elite and secretive division of exorcists fighting the worst of the demonic, is described as a genre mash up of “The Hangover” and “The Exorcist.” Lawrence Mattis of Circle of Confusion, which produces the elevated genre hit “The Walking Dead” on AMC, is producing, along with Jon Denny, David Moscow and Offhollywood Picture’s Aldey Sanchez and Mark L. Pederson. The film is being lensed in Brooklyn, NY.

Stereoscopic visual effects are being provided by The Molecule.

JT Petty recently sold “Zombie vs Robots: Inherit the Earth” to Sony, based on the IDW graphic novel, with Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes and Circle of Confusion producing.

Awesome big fan of JT's work, WTG OFFHOLLYWOOD!

awesome! Very excited to see that the Epics that have been sold are getting used right away for large productions! This is the start of RED's saturation of the industry with the Epic: The definition of digital cinema trumping film.

Awesome news!
Congrats MARK.

Awesome Mark, and thanks again for the awesome talks at the Storm launch ...

Congrats, Mark.

Since we are shooting 7 1/2 pages tonight - I'll have time to post some behind the scenes video + pics.

First day was awesome. We had to clean blood off the beamsplitter mirror a few times. ET's ATOM rig really kicks ass - really holds the alignment with aggressive movements and fast and furious shooting.

Scenes from last night were extremely low light - ISO 1000 - 5K 5:1 - and the images off the EPIC are just crazy cinematic - you will never want to use another camera again.

I'm proud to say that one of my former students at Compass, Alex Craig, is working on this project with Mark. Go get 'em, Alex!

We're now on day 12 and its just a blessing to be shooting 3D in this way. Flying through setups, images look incredible, SSD's are a blessing, and its honestly just cake compared to a Quasar/R1 combo.
