  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OffHollywood = RED ONE Service Center

This is something we are taking extremely seriously. We are fully committed to providing excellent service to RED ONE camera owners. We are in the process of expanding our camera facilities and staff in an aggressive way and I am more than confident that any concerns anyone might have will melt away when we are open for service. We are excited to exceed any and all expectations.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement!

Glad to hear it mark

Not to rain on the congratulatory parade here, but while offhollywood certainly has no shortage of experience with RED gear, they do not have any experience in repair

Thats pretty funny.. people said the same thing about RED 2 years ago.. how can a guy that makes sunglasses make a camera? This argument is moot. I have a feeling Emery just woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning, which is ok, it happens to the best of us.

2 years ago RED never had experience servicing cameras either... within 3 months we got pretty darn good at it. And as we all know, there was plenty of problems to fix.

Offhollywood has been an incredible ally to RED since before day one. The feedback we get every week from their customers that have worked with them is incredible. They have helped fix alot of issues in stressful situations, specially at the beginning. We have no concerns about the capability of Offhollywood.

You find the right people ( that have the experience ) and you manage them well and it's not brain surgery...

To be fair I did wake up on the wrong side of the bed but good point Jarred. My post was not about their capability. My point was they compete in every sector of the market and the suggestion was of using a facility that does service, and hence not compete with your customers in the same manner.

gotcha... your point is very understandable.

While I appreciate the concern posed by Emery...as a soon to be RED user myself I personally would feel more confident sending my cam in for repair service to OffHollywood (if I couldn't get it to RED themselves) vs. another company with no ties to the community. I would have no reservation about sending my cam to Mark and Co while I would be a bit weary about sending it into some camera service center I'm unfamiliar with.

I also appreciate that outside of RED, there are few companies who know the ins and outs of REDs products better than OH.

As an aside, I'm always impressed that the RED staff does not delete posts that question their decisions so long as they are stated in a civil manner.

I am pleased to announce that OFFHOLLYWOOD NY is gearing up to be the first Certified east coast service/repair center for the RED ONE.

Services include:

1. All east coast camera repairs
2. All LCD repairs
3. EVF repairs
4. In warranty and Out of warranty repairs
5. Full factory calibration
6. R3D Data recovery

The Offhollywood service center is planning to open July 1st.

I'm curious as to what the Certification process was that OH have gone through. Also I'm curious as to if its available to other people/companies to learn these processes and be certified. I'm not interested in becoming a repair house but having a certified RED repair technician in my company would be a great asset.

With respect Andrew, being a future RED owner or current owner/operator is not the same as being a rental facility, production company, or post production company in New York City (all of which OH are) that competes with OH. A camera manufacturer using a rental facility as a service center is hardly out of the ordinary and it's always somewhat of an awkward business relationship for competing companies to use each other for service. But where this gets additionally sticky is OH operates in 3 major sectors of the market and so you've just tripled the number of companies who have to now work with their competitors if they are offering RED services.

Everyone in New York city who competes in these markets, including Katabatic Digital (my own company), will continue to service their respective clients but it honestly does put us in an awkward position and I can tell you I am not the only company who shares this sentiment.

I will not be commenting on this again. My point has been made and I trust RED will ensure they are setting up a top notch service center at OH.

I thought Abel Cine Tech will be first to be authorized fix and service cameras. I hope they will become RED service point too.
They were always great service place and rental house.

growing :)

Snap your fingers and set one up in New Zealand too please Jarred :D

Oh, certainly I agree which is why I said I understand your concerns. I was just saying as somebody who will simply be a RED owner I personally (and know many others in my shoes who feel the same way) feel very comfortable with the idea of OffHollywood as a repair center due to their tight ties to the community and their robust knowledge of RED cameras.

I think your concerns are completely valid and I hope RED can find a...more optimal solution in future expansions of the certified RED service center program.

We are Red Ready here in Canada,

Check with PS, they are already helping out Redusers in Toronto

Wow Mark! Congrats! Definitely gives you an awesome advantage in being the rental house "If there's a problem....*I am* the repair facility" :-)

Were those flickr pics with Ted and all the opening party? Dang, I gotta come visit sometime!

and oh yeah, OH looks great after the remodel!
