Doug Liman volunteered to take a couple of our REDs and our guys down to Haiti to shoot footage for the We Are The World music video remake in support of Haitian earthquake relief.

Offhollywood donated REDs & post production for the video which hopefully will air during the Olympics on Friday. Tons of people involved in this great project on both coasts - with a number of different cameras used.

We've also been shooting behind the scenes footage on MX enabled cameras for the "making of video".

When none of the various companies involved could produce insurance that would cover the equipment in Haiti - we told Liman our plan B was to send a couple 7D packages - Doug agreed to "self insure" our equipment so that he could shoot RED.

This is the second time Doug Liman has "self insured" our equipment - the last time was when they were shooting FAIR GAME in Jordon and he took one of our REDs into Iraq on the crews day off to shoot some b-roll.

Great work Mark! As Tom says - Respect. You've earned it.

Graeme

It is more f'ed down there than can be explained here.

Imagine everyone in your neighborhood becoming homeless tonight. You all need water. You all need food. If you had a job, that place may or may not even be there anymore. The place where you bought your food, may or may not be there anymore. So maybe you check the next neighborhood over for food, and things are the same. Rinse and repeat. People are walking up to six hours one way for help.

Everyone is just figuring out how to stay alive. It was rough to see, but hopefully some good comes to those people from our time there.

In spite of everything going on, he had a lot of support. The film students from the local Ciné Institute were fantastic and such hard workers.

I have done some small shoots where I self insure, but to do so in Haiti and Iraq. That takes Bawlz!!!!!

Cutos, respect!

Prost,
Rich

Respect... it always feels good to help though we are limited in how much we can give as individuals... wish i was there right now .

Things are getting better there. There are a lot of people down there helping. We just can't forget about them. They will have a long road out. The rainy season is coming and that is going to create a whole new set of problems.

Awesome stuff, I can't wait to see the video!!!

Mark, I was getting choked up and I haven't even seen a frame of footage yet. Amazing that you were able to help make this happen. Much respect to you and your team there at Offhollywood. Although the pain runs deep in Haiti (and a lot of pain was there even before the earthquake) perhaps doing a video like this will offer a glimmer of hope for a people that have struggled even in good times. I look forward to seeing it, although I know it will be emotional to watch. These kind of events are a reminder of how fortunate we are to live relatively comfortable lifestyles and they also point out how quickly it could all fall apart if we found ourselves in a disaster .

Just got back from there; I am still shaken up.
Make sure they have some solid transportation arranged and have power unit available at all time.
Good luck!

We are already back. We had great support in spite of the devastation.
