  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

OFFHOLLYWOOD DRAGON R3Ds & MORE

It's easy to see the compression used, just download the files and check the metadata.

This look is going to be my visual approach for an upcoming short film in Q2 2014. ( Intentionally blown highlights and added film grain - Note for RED Non-Beliebers ;) )
Dragon is really stunning in post!

delicious editing, very nice. :)
Ok, I couldn't let David have all the fun! Thanks Mark for the footage

Edited using native R3D Dragon files in FCPX on the retina Macbook Pro.

secondStage.

This second set is done completely in Resolve. Came home from work, decided to finish a few extra frames. Thanks again Mark.

i thing it's better to hold it till you get your hand on a XT so the test will be more solid and fair :-).

I have an XT available to me on Thursday - so, unless something pops up in my schedule - I should be able to post some comparison files in RAW for you all to process as you see fit.

Esmaeil - just remember, to be "more solid and fair" just make sure you bring those Dragon RAW files down to 4K/UHD and bring the Alexa RAW up to 4K/UHD :)

Gravy.

Not that I want to be "that guy", but any ETA?

(HDRx got released today, too... Just saying ;)

Mike P you are so "that guy" :)

I will do my best to post some RAW frame samples later tonight after I get the kids to bed. I'm NOT going to personally post ANY processed images - just R3D, ARRI RAW & ProRes Log C frames - since there's 100 ways you can evaluate, compare and process RAW images. You guys can process the RAW files and post if you want. And then there is the whole resolution thing ... are you comparing images in 4K DCI resolutions or 4K/UHD resolution - or an HD web encode, etc.

We shot the most basic and simple comparison test, with some different contrast ratios and bracketed exposures - I did it to learn more and share with the community. I fully expect to shoot more elaborate tests with accomplished cinematographers in the very near future. But I think the files I will post will be helpful to some folks.
