  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Odd Spots in footage

I have noticed some odd spots on the footage, it looks like it would be from a dirty Lens. But after cleaning the Lens on both sides and using different ones the spots are still present.

Could this be the sensor or?

What would you suggest using to clean it?
 
Your pic is not showing up... Would love to help you out though.
 
If you're using different lenses and the spots are still there, it's likely to be spots on your OLPF filter in front of the sensor and not your lenses. But a picture will give us more ideas!
 
If the spots are like dull faint freckles at say f3.5 but sharpen up and maybe even become rings at f16, depending on lens used, they are likely spots of dust on the OLPF in front of the sensor. They will remain with a lens change but maybe look a bit different.
 
Shoot a different image and watch if the spots are in the same place.. probably a lens-sensor problem, probably only fingerprints..
 
I haven't noticed in any other shot. But I just pulled this Scarlet. It seems it is on the Sensor or OLPF I can see a tiny smudge on it. :(

What suggestion cleaning it or should I wait until I get some Sensor Swabs?

If it's a smudge and not dust which can be blown off, wait until you have the proper materials to clean the OLPF. Eclipse fluid and Sensor Swab of the correct size.

Don't, I repeat, Don't, use anything like alcohol or Acetone on your camera sensor, or it will become monochrome and useless.

Best way is to Google for the right thing..

Great way to upgrade to Scarlet Monochrome. ; )
 
FYI - we, the end users, do not have an access to the sensor directly. We can only "reach" as far as the OLPF. If you have never cleaned an OLPF on a DSLR/RED before - just take it to your nearest camera repair shop. What you will pay for the cleaning is less then what you would spend buying the cleaning supplies - and the job will be done by a professional...

After looking at it, it was Dust. But I will keep my eye on it.

Yes those are the ones (you want the 1.5/1.6x size swabs) - expensive, but so is your camera! Only use each side of your swipe once, in a continuous sweep from one side to the other - do a google search.

However, only use these if there is stuck on dirt or dust which doesn't blow off with a Rocket Blower, or come off with the Artic Butterfly Sensor Brush, first. The less you have to touch the OLPF the better as even the most careful contact clean has a finite risk of scratching the glass.
