  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Odd Banding in RED Footage

when a failure happens it's good to know that somebody already described the trouble and how it was fixed and how long it took to be fixed.

When it's something Red and *only* Red can fix, shouldn't they be the first to be contacted?

If the info goes here first, Red has to fix two problems... first, the camera, and then the bad publicity. More often than not, it's simpler to fix the first than the second.

Of course, if they don't or can't fix the problem, *then* it should be discussed publicly in terms of what to do to work around it. But Reduser is not the tech support area of Red Digital Cinema. They have a phone number and www.red.com/support for that.

Keeping troubles secret is Sony's polic?

Well to be clear I was never suggesting we hide an issue, look at my posts and you will see I dont hold back. I was actually responding to the post that suggested this was a "chronic" problem. How is one post a chronic problem? Sometimes you guys get carried away with hysteria and forget that a simple call to tech support would have solved your issue. (btw- this is not addressed to the op, just in general)
A great deal of the posts here deal with operator error, when a simple search would have found 20 posts with the exact same operator error. A good example of this is the dozens of complaints about corrupt quicktimes, it was simply users trying to work w/ 4K footage (which is not supported)....there are at least 20 seperate threads on this topic alone.

ok, sorry I am way off topic...back to the topic at hand. Any news from support?

When I posted I by no means wanted to spread bad info about Red, just was looking for some help from someone who might know what was causing it. I've been very happy with red customer service and am working with them to fix this issue, hopefully will have an answer soon.

I do agree with you, they should first be aware but I also need to know what could happen to all of us and how it was fixed, sometimes RED does not have to fix it, it could be a user fault.
The trouble for me is your expression:"bad publicity"
We all need to know this issue and others untill they are fixed.
Bad publicity is if we learn only issues and not that they were solved,
so the one who starts alerting others on this forum MUST write ALSO that it is now fixed and we can all sleep better!
Now, if a producer wants to avoid the extra quality he could get from a RED
because of a rumour, you guess what i think of him, this forum is exactly
to exchange infos and kill rumors !
So, for me, secrets about issues is really not the best policy and I have been at good school here because more than once, the RED team explains and changes and reacts to users and I love it.
I visited the Sony factory in Japan when I was younger and they told me theyhad trouble with too many secrets INSIDE their own company.
The trust with your friends, how does it grow ?
I am not sure it is bad publicity as long as we have an answer, it could be the opposite because, so far, RED does care for its customers.

Please keep us informed when and how this is solved,
thank you!
