I can definetely see myself purchasing the red baseplate down the road, but I just don't need a quick release utility right now.

I was looking at this as a baseplate to use with my scarlet and fs100.

There was a lot threads talking about lens height with the scarlet vs other camcorders. Will this base plate work for scarlet?

I believe it will. However I am new to red products and am not 100% sure myself, you may need the spacer from Wooden Camera for correct lens height, etc.

It won't. General rule of thumb is that if the LWS rods can't go through the entire build, the OConnor baseplate isn't for you. (It's mainly been designed for situations where the camera manufacturer doesn't offer their own dedicated system.)

Jim,

Please elaborate as this is great information for those of us that are new to this form factor. Two product examples, and why one wouldn't work would be awesome. Thank you.

Look at this:

http://www.ocon.com/labs/rod-standards.html

The OConnor baseplate has the rods running completely the camera, so it's made mainly for DSLRs and smaller camcorders.

The Scarlet and Epic are built a bit taller, so the LWS rod mount has to sit in front of the camera, for example

http://www.red.com/store/rail-components/product/epic-mounting-plate-pack-modular-m

Use that and you'll be fine with your O-Box on the Scarlet. There are also other LWS 15mm rod mounts available from third parties, and some people even choose to go top-mount with their O-Boxes (there is a second bridge mount) in order to keep the bottom of the camera free.

It won't work because the the proper height for 15mm rods is above the bottom of the camera not below. Check ot wooden camera

Scarlet/Epic are too tall for solutions that run 15mm LW rods under the camera. It would put the lens too far away from matte box and follow focus.

However, the Universal Baseplate is probably the best option there is for the FS100.

using 15mm LW matte box and follow focus with Scarlet/Epic requires some kind of riser. The concept is best illustrated in this picture of Brook's :

Jim, does O'Connor have any plans to offer a riser system for the EPIC/SCARLET?

Not foreseeable at the moment. There are at least four companies doing that now, all their products look just fine, and there's nothing we currently see that we could add to that mix. We really like to stick with products where we can do something definitively different, it's a better long-term product philosophy.

If we find something innovative further down the line that we could add, we might go for it.

This is an old thread, but I was thinking about getting the O'Connor Universal Baseplate for the various cameras I will be using.

But, when it comes down to using the Red Camera, I was wondering if this would possible to do;

Attach 2 short rods at the back and slightly 2 longer rods at the front.
At the front of the baseplate, the rods will be slightly higher, but at the back, they should be flush because they are smaller.
The rod bracket at the back would be underneath the baseplate as seen in the pictures/videos. But for the front rod bracket, that would be removed and placed on the top of the baseplate. Because they are slightly longer rods, it would allow to mount the rod bracket above the baseplate.

But this brings up some questions:
1) If the front 2 rods are above the baseplate, will there be enough room to mount the RED camera onto the baseplate still? - Im not sure how big the baseplate is, so it may not be enough room to mount the camera onto it anyways.

Im pretty sure the rod bracket can be removed and placed on top of the baseplate. They are individually moveable, so it should come off. If its too short, attach slightly longer rods in the front.

OR

Another option if what I said above isnt possibe is to do this:

Get a rod riser piece, such as the one offered from Redrock and attach this to the front of the baseplate for additional height.

Would any of these options work?
