  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Obsolete crybabies are making me sick.

Doesn't bother me one bit. And my order for the 5D MK2 is still intact.

guess you are right... Its just that I would rather throw my money at jim. However when I window shop at the redone store i´d only get a powerpack and four carbonrods for the price of a 5d. Guess that settles it for now.

From where I stand, the best camera in Jim's line-up is still the RED One. Hands down. As much as people bitch about it.

Come spring, summer, fall, or winter 2009-2010, that'd be another twenty bucks.

Of course, that's only my opinion.

:shifty:

I'm waiting for the 11/20 Nikon announcement. Hopefully they will twist some arms into putting out the product us poor folk want.

As far as forum decorum is concerned. My post on scarletuser was locked after 7 posts. There was no swearing or name calling, just the suggestion that Red is not being forthright as to why this change came about.

I feel censored by red.

Accusing Red of 'nickel and diming', being involved in 'Shady business" and 'saving face' sounds like name calling to me. BTW Censored is not a feeling.

You are right.

I feel that I have been censored. Thats what I meant to say.

I loosely defined nickel and diming, thats all. If you think that it applies to whats going on with this particular "modular" business plan then we are in agreement. How would you like me to say it another way?

Again you are right, the word shady has a nasty stigma and is completely the wrong word.

Crystalline captures my meaning. Their business practices are crystalline. I see exactly whats going on. They have pulled the buttons and other essential bits off the camera with out significantly altering the price, they then intend to sell us those necessary parts to squeeze what I estimate to be nearly twice the price of the HIGHLY MARKETED price. This is not an issue of a few hundred bucks.

Now they keep saying it isn't so while saying absolutely nothing that would pin them down, even to a loose price range. I hear a lot of "we'll try." I don't hear any thing along the line of NO MORE THAN $3500.

I am ok with what they have done as far as diverting from the $3k that seems to be the everyman limit. Realistically it was the smart move.

What I don't like is all the "if you start saving your money now, you will be able to afford any difference in price" business.

How about this, if all of those absolutely necessary accessories add up to less than half the price of the $2500 body (which would be giving a $750 margin beyond the estimated $3k out the door price). I will renounce ever thing I have said on the topic and put a fancy red bumper sticker on the back of my car.

Of course that is without the lens but we don't know how much the fixie will be so indulge me and throw in a few hundred for the lens.

We're talking virgin bumper here.

I would love to discuss the actual impact of the economic downturn and how they have effected Reds plan, but alas the powers that be take issue with my capacity to feel abstract concepts like censorship.

No, but it can be used as a verb, so the English is perfectly correct, though the statement may or may not be true

forums are a democratic form of information exchange, yet certain unwritten rules should prevail, what our parents maybe taught us as "good manners", and all of us should adhere to them. I, for one, having been a member for over a year and not yet purchased a RED, most certainly refrain from telling RED what they should do. How can you, on your 49th post no less, and without a RED camera to your name I'm sure, be telling them what to do? Show some respect.

I'll say it again, those who are complaining would have complained no matter what, for it appears they have not managed to put their RED's to good use. Those who have, don't care less about the "Scarlet/Epic threat", since their miserable, no good, only 4K cameras will continue to perform above and beyond 99% of anything else out there, netting them business, money and satisfaction. Why don't you guys spend your time solidifying your business instead of complaining? Please.........maybe it's true there's no intelligent life in the universe, 'cause there doesn't seem to be much of it on this planet...

I have a Red. Could you tell me if I've been putting it to good use please? Audio problems and image problems have been a problem, but what do you think about my business in general?

stop to kiss them.. maybe you'd have more affordable products.. i never saw so much stupidity altogether surrounding a manufacturer.. you have spoiled them.. for what?.. higher prices?

RED is 10x more honest than ANY other company I've ever dealt with. They've bent over backward many times with their support. If they're not saying something it's for good and honest reasons. They've earned their respect from many if not most of their customers which rare in any industry. You noobs haven't experienced this so don't be so quick to be prejudge them.

As for guaranteeing prices and features, the world is falling apart right now and the cost of goods and labor in the next year will likely go up many 10s of percents. Listing prices for future products takes mega balls.

In an economic climate where every other company is withdrawing, Red is showing tremendous leadership but innovating and revolutionizing markets.

I feel deprived. I missed the whole experience of having Red hold a gun to my head and force me to buy one of their products.

Don't like the way the company does business? Great. Buy your camera elsewhere and spare us the childish self-righteousness. Buy your Nikon - and good luck with the trade-in next year.

There are many criticisms/suggestions you can make to Red. But complaining (whining) about the price is ridiculous. Prices fluctuate. Grow up. They are informing you of the projected price, once the products are available. Now you have this info, you can do with it what you choose.

By the way, filmmaking is also a business, in case you were fuzzy on that point...
