  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Obsolete crybabies are making me sick.

Let me get this right...
I get 12.5% off of Scarlet S35 which is $6160 and I get to keep my Red One.

So for $6160, I get to upgrade to a 5k camera, better redcode, smaller, lighter, and with a good solid upgrade path. Plus, I get to keep my RED ONE.

What the frick are you guys complaining about? That's less than a the tripod and head I bought!!!!

We get to keep our RedOnes? Even with the Epic upgrade? Really?

I don't think so. But if you buy a scarlet you do because it's not a trade in as far Ive heard.

My plan is to get an S35 first, keep the R1 as a backup body, and then move up to the 645 later.

Do people think that tech/price will stay the same? Do they think that they can corner the market from competitors? Who is complaining? All R1 owners who don't like this should complain here, and write to Red what their justification is? R1 owners got the most, use of quality/price/service, from any company till this day. And Red still wants to help support them for their loyalty. All RedOne owner who complain should be ashamed of themselves, apologize, and thank Jim and Red for still helping them.

every thing is like this. it should be like this.

Yeah, when they thank us for beta testing and paving the way for redcode and the new "modular" systems (deja vu), whilst making clients nervous and tolerating visual anomolies. Still waiting for the european service center and I missed the redcode improvements in b17..

If the scarlet didn't have an interchangeable lens AND an S35 sensor AND Epic didn't cost tens of thousands more for us poor folk, etc. etc. etc.... then maybe there would be less tears.

:)

Despite the tears, RED absolutely SHOULD make an S35 interchangeable lenses camera for $7000 BECAUSE THEY CAN. If they don't, then RED is no different than Sony et al who dribble out technology improvements and keep prices high based almost entirely on market/marketing conditions. RED broke ranks with this marketing model and I am glad they did and hope they continue.

The only tweak I would have suggested to this rollout would have been to add a model name and call the S35 and FF35 Scarlets either the REDONE-A or the REDTWO to avoid some of the tears.

IN addition RED has to face market realities. Canon will be shipping very soon a 22mp FF35 sensor with full autofocus and extensive and relatively inexpensive lens support for just $2600 with 1080P recording - as their LOWLEVEL pro camera!. Is it as good as REDONE for motion? - no - but who knows what upgraded firmware will do and/or what they will offer in the nextgen 1DSMarkIV model and DIGIC V chips.

Better for RED to give us ALL THEY CAN - and maybe give us more than they absolutely have to for these price points - than to cede market leadership to someone else.

If necessary, Jim can throw in a six pack of beer and a RED mug for us to cry in.

NO Crying in Digital Cinema!!!:nuke:

Although I can sympathize with the frustrated Red owners, I have to agree with BigLu on this one. I am personally stoked about getting an awesome Scarlet for $7000 and having TWO cameras. That is a huge comfort on bigger productions when something goes wrong with one of the bodies.

Red should allow Red One owners to trade in their Red Ones for $17,500 credit on a S35 or FF35 Scarlet system, both of which will offer higher resolution than the Red One. (No doubt there will be a way to spend another $10K+ on accessories.)

If Scarlet is indeed substantially inferior to Red One, Red will be getting a bargain.

You kidding? and just after that do that, they can buy you a new car too.

I should have preceded this with, "If Red believes the Red One is superior to Scarlet..."

It's about the claim that a 6K FF35 camera isn't superior to a 4K smaller-than-S35 camera.

I don't think that's true, and I doubt many people here think that's true.

However, that is Red Digital Cinema's official position. Well, okay. Put your money where your mouth is.

Personally, I think "making obsolescence obsolete" should never have been claimed in the first place. Alternately, it should not have been believed.

Anyone who bitches or moans about the new cameras being "too good" should be f#cking banned immediately.

Terrible how people still mismatch prices of "camera" (like RED one) and "brains" which are just only elements of camera!

He he Tom thats right. To hell with obscurantism and progress inhibitors :clown2: :nuke:

forums are a democratic form of information exchange, yet certain unwritten rules should prevail, what our parents maybe taught us as "good manners", and all of us should adhere to them. I, for one, having been a member for over a year and not yet purchased a RED, most certainly refrain from telling RED what they should do. How can you, on your 49th post no less, and without a RED camera to your name I'm sure, be telling them what to do? Show some respect.

I'll say it again, those who are complaining would have complained no matter what, for it appears they have not managed to put their RED's to good use. Those who have, don't care less about the "Scarlet/Epic threat", since their miserable, no good, only 4K cameras will continue to perform above and beyond 99% of anything else out there, netting them business, money and satisfaction. Why don't you guys spend your time solidifying your business instead of complaining? Please.........maybe it's true there's no intelligent life in the universe, 'cause there doesn't seem to be much of it on this planet...

LOL.

This is the best two paragraphs I've read today. In the first one, you're apoplectic that I phrased a suggestion as "Red should" (I assume I'm also horribly uncouth to say "Canon should un-cripple the 5D2"). Then, without missing a beat, you make an ad hominem attack on any Red One owners who disagree with you about a corporate policy as losers who can't make money with their cameras.

Nicely done!

I`ll go some steps further. Red has to (there`s no arguing about that) not only give an epic FF35 in exchange for a Red One but an Arricam ST (incl. accessories, unlimited stock, processing, telecine for offline, then scanning, DI and recording) as backup in case of technical failures. This is the least they HAVE to do. :-D

This forum does not seize to surprise me... people complaining that upcomming cameras are too good and too cheap. That is insane... the "obsolenscence obsolete" refers to "good enough for hollywod". It doesn´t mean that everybody will have the best camera in the world for the rest of their life, because they advanced 1000 bucks two years ago.

All this fuzz and whining takes away the truely sad news hidden in the new announcements, namely that scarlet can´t match the canon 5d on price/performance. eventhough it wont be delivered to the common man before 2010. Scarlet is not 3k for 3k but more like 3k for 15k. To me that was a disappointment. I had hoped that jim would kick canons ass offering something similar to the 5d, but recording redcode. damn!
Why ain´t this bothering anybody? i don´t get it...
