  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nvidia to launch Tesla Personal Supercomputer

Boxxlabs is exhibiting at supercomputing conferences?
i thought boxx is a standard PC integrator and is selling assembled regular TYAN motherboards?

did i miss something?

p.s. is there an ETA when you will sell dual nehalem boxes and did you decide on the motherboard?

"BOXXlabs" is just an R&D group here at BOXX Technologies. We don't sell or exhibit anything...

BOXX has designed and sold purpose-built computing platforms for VFX, motion media, visual simulation and other compute-intensive applications for over a decade. Nothing new here.

BOXX works very closely with NVIDIA (among other vendors) and were asked by them to help engineer a PC platform for their PSC initiative. Those efforts lead to the development of a BOXX-branded PSC.

I cannot discuss possible future products for several reasons - not the least of which is an NDA with intel.

sorry.

cheers -

is it possible to run all 960 cores using Red Hat Enterprise Linux and render management products like DEADLINE® and render projects from Maya or 3ds Max. and is it possible to hook up PCIe 4 lane based storage system on the Tesla Personal Supercomputer?

is the BOXX version of the Tesla still UNDER 10k or more?

Yes, the PSC is under $10K. ;)

However, I have yet to hear about anybody using the TESLA technology for visual effects, 3D rendering or anything related.

Right now, software (CPU-based) processing is the only feasible platform for commercial cinematic raytrace rendering.

All the GPU-based 3D rendering approaches to date have severely limited the creative/aesthetic flexibility of the rendering stage... Many of the algorithms and procedural shaders used in commercial rendering engines such as renderman, mental ray, etc, simply cannot be directly implemented for GPU's.

A completely new approach to software design will be needed before we see GPU rendering for the broader 3D cinematics space.

Anyone buy one of these yet for experimentation? Boxx Maybe? The reseller drop down on nVidia's site doesn't list U.S. for some reason?

There is still a problem: how do you display the damn thing! I can't even display 4k

How about parallel projectors for 28k?

Then since your new action flick will be so stunning we might have to talk about parallel chairs, for when we get parallel butts.
