  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

So my computer build is finished (yay!), and I just managed to fire up Premiere. However, I noticed as I was going through playback that I was dropping frames like mad, and upon inspection I noticed that there was under a 1% draw on the GPUs during playback.

I tried to do two things: update my NVIDIA drivers, and install CUDA drivers. Both times, I seemed to successfully install the drivers, but upon restart I get a red box that says "secure boot violation" and I'm unable to boot without going through BIOS.

Here is my setup.

Intel 5960x 8 core
ASUS x99 WS-E motherboard
2 Nvidia Titan Blacks
DDR 4 RAM max for this system
Windows 7 Pro

Has anyone seen this before? I'm new to windows, so I'm climbing my way up this learning curve.
 
I wonder if that might be a BIOS thing going sour. Whilst the X99 motherboard is a newly released product, there may already have been some BIOS revisions released. It might therefore be something a BIOS update may fix.

Please take heed of others here who may comment to develop or repudiate this notion. I know only just enough about computers to paint myself into bad corners.
 
Did someone install Win 7 with EFI/GPT bootloader setup in the bios? Sounds like some bios settings are incorrect. Did you install CC 2014 or CC? What Nvidia driver version do you have installed? Did someone install the chipset and IME drivers before the other drivers? Do you have all the Windows updates done ie framework updates?
 
These are all excellent suggestions. I'm going to parse them when I get home this evening and reply. I'm currently in the sound mix! Yay.

To answer two BIOS questions: I did actually manually reset the BIOS before installing Windows 7 (I had Windows 8 Originally, but some of my equipment wasn't supported). I haven't tweaked the BIOS since installing the OS. I haven't yet checked for updates to the BIOS.

In the meantime, I did use a program called... Furry? Furry something? To benchmark my GPUs. It gave a score in the 4000s, and did seem to be both seeing and using the GPUs.

However, when in Premiere, I went back and forth between Mercury Playback...Software and Mercury Playback...OpenGL, and didn't see any real difference in performance.

At 1/4 playback resolution of Red 5k, I was getting Maybe 4-10 frames per second. Both with Software and OpenGL.
 
A few more answers for Eric Bowen: CC 2014, According to NVIDIA I'm using the most recent driver.

I'm sorry to say, I don't know what chipset and IME drivers are. I'll do some research into that. I'm pretty certain that BIOS was set to default after the CMOS reset button.
