Sorry guys, didn't know where to else to put this. I am trying to find the highest quality playback format for Dragon footage on our new Nvidia Shield. So far I have been able to get 4k x265 100mbps 10 bit 4:2:0 to playback awesome. But when I change it to 4:2:2 I get green screen of death on playback with hardware decoding enabled, and knarly stuttery playback on software decoding. I read somewhere that the Shield was capable of 10 bit 422 UHD playback, so I can only assume it is some kind of profile limitation or other setting I have wrong. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Wow...crickets...lol

How about this question, if you have to choose between having 4:2:2 8 bit or 4:2:0 10 bit, what would you choose for best display format and why? Thanks!

Really depends if the display is 10-bit or not to use the advantage of added bit-depth, cause if it's an 8-bit panel, 8-bit, 4:2:2 would be better, I would assume.

If you post in the right forum subsection or called nvidia or red I'm sure you can get this sorted. I'm not sure myself but yes unless the panel shows it you don't need it 10bit, hopefully you will get it sorted though good luck

Thanks guys.Working on the details, but after speaking to tech support it looks like the Shield only supports HEVC/h265 10 bit 4:2:0 or 10 bit 4:4:4 NOT 10 bit 4:2:2 or any profile of 4:2:2 for that matter that I can find. This is REALLY strange as 10 bit 4:2:2 is essentially the upcoming industry standard for high quality bt. 2020 delivery. Hopefully 10 bit 4:4:4 will work with UHD/4k resolution, as I slightly suspect this may not be possible at anything over 1080P. I will keep you guys posted.

Hmmmmm...so far, best I can get to play back reliably is 100mbps 10 bit 4:2:0 (x265) Everything in the 422 and 444 range seems to cause green screen of death. However my question has been elevated over at Nvidia, so I guess we will see when I hear back from them.
