It's now available for the mac. Will this help with the RED workflow? Will it speed up playback and rendering?

Should help a lot... 1.5GB/sec...

theoretically we should have real time 2k in apple Color with a new Nahelem and 500mb/s storage to work with.

Apple still has to rewrite some code, but if they do, the 4800, a KONA3 and proper drives, this could give us Assimilate and Autodesk speeds. If Final Cut Studio 3 has full 10bit RGB in FCP and of course A LOT!! of Improvements in Color, it would be a SMOKE/LUSTRE killer.

has only DVI Output .... no DisplayPort!!!!
But it seems it will have the SDI Option also for the mac

Maybe SnowLeopard (when released) will solve graphic cards limitations.

Apple needs a Quadro with 2 DP and Optional SDI.
Other solutions... Useless!!!!

Hey Luki, Hopefully it doesn't matter that the 4800 has no SDI out, The 5600 SDI output is still not as good as real broadcast hardware from AJA/BLUEFISH/DVS. 8bit DVI doesn't matter because one would hopefully be monitoring via 10bit 4:4:4 out of the Broadcast card.

Hopefully Apple will make the video monitoring via real broadcast hardware and accelerated rendering via the 4800. Like what Autodesk does and IFX and others... I say hopefully because Apple can still screw it all up..

I think a lot of people are just waiting to see. Not to say Scratch isn't a fine product, I feel like it needs more DI and FX features, but its fine, but yeah windows does kinda mess things up on occasion. More stuff like drivers and network, so as I start to expand windows to play better with others it starts crashing more. Also, if the 5600 SDI can be ported to LINUX don't you think they would allow it to be ported to Mac? Apple is way behind on that sort of thing, I know it has something to do with their OS video core, and its not really that simple of just porting over, but you would think Apple would change that?

Anyway Luki, the 4800 is on the supported Scratch list, so a version of Scracth for OS X is the works??
