Everytime I set my footage up to transcode (from 8k R3D to 2k prores) my new 1080 slowly uses more and more VRAM until it fills out and then starts getting errors. My old Maxwell titanx never had this issue and I'm hoping it's not just that 8GB of VRAM isn't enough. I have an i7 7820x and 64 GB of RAM.
Anyone have any thoughts?????

There was some talk about this on one of the Resolve groups, where one user said he had issues until he installed 2 x 1080ti's with 12GB of VRAM. Once he did that, he was able to transcode to HD and 4K from 8K Helium with no problem. No doubt this can also be affected by CPU, OS, i/o, and other factors.

Vram doesn't stack that way though. If I had to 1080's with 8GB each it still counts as 8GB. I just built this system as a home unit that could also transcode... And now I can't transcode. Does anyone have any insight as to why the vram would just fill up? I can watch it happening in the task manager performance tab just slowly building and then capping off over a 15 minute period.

What specific software are you transcoding from? I assume you're on Mac OSX if you're rendering ProRes.

I'm on a PC transcoding 8k R3D files to 422hq to work with in premiere. Any possible ideas? I'm at a loss on what to try next

what's the mystery software?

i don't make dalies, but do render feature films - I've not seen GPU ram rise, it bounces around as the grades fly by, drops once a shot with ofx is rendered, i'm using a machine with 2x 8core xeon's + 1x 1080, and another with 2x 12core Xeon's + 2x 1080Ti

That's very weird. I'm only running windows task manager so I can see the vram and REDcinex. Im wondering if it's the way I have some preferences set up in windows or REDcinex. I'll have to try again and see if I can sort something. Has anyone else encountered this?
