NULL Target: Now Taking Reservations

The NULL Lens is the centerpiece of a family of optical products for Digital Cinema. Several new items and accessories will be added to the product line in the coming months. The first of these ancillary products to be released is the NULL Target.

The NULL Lens is a perfect tool when you are outside and can point at a distant building or tree line. You can use anything over a 150’ (50m) distance to set focus accurately to 5 microns.

In some situations however (such as close quarters or setting up in a van at night), this can be difficult. That’s where the NULL Target comes in. It contains a backlit Siemen’s Star — a focusing target that makes it easy and accurate to judge focus. Optics in the NULL Target bring the Siemen’s Star into clear focus at infinity. The NULL Target screws into the NULL Lens, and this coupled device is used to set back focus as usual — now you don’t have to worry about pointing the camera, because everything is built into the NULL assembly.

The whole unit is small, lightweight, internally powered, reliably accurate and easy to use. Abel Cine Tech is now taking reservations for the NULL Target, with delivery due to begin this December.

Along with the release of the NULL Target are a few pricing announcements. The price for the NULL Target is $1100. For all those who have already purchased the NULL Lens, this price will be discounted to $1050. As previously announced, the price of the NULL Lens has now increased from $1595 to $1695. However, if one purchases the NULL Lens and NULL Target together then the kit price is $2695.

This pricing is available for a limited time only. If you purchase the NULL Lens/Target kit you have the option to take delivery of the NULL Lens now and use it on its own immediately, or wait until the Target is available to receive both items together. Both the NULL Lens and the NULL Target come in their own protective cases, and the NULL Target’s case is large enough to carry both units mounted together.

To reserve your NULL Target or NULL Lens/Target kit, contact an Abel Cine Tech Sales Representative by phone or in person at our New York, Los Angeles or Chicago offices. Alternatively, you may make your reservation online in our CineStore.

For international orders, please contact Stevie Evelly at stevie@abelcine.com so that we can directly assist you.

just put my order in. :emote_popcorn:

The NULL Lens works great and always did. The NULL Target makes it easy to use in all situations.

I got to try out the prototype and I concur. It is very simple, robust, and easy to use.
Just sent an email to my Abel sales rep.
Mitch, is it still just a single Siemen's Star? Or did you include something out towards the edges for corner-to-corner assessment?
Cheers,
Harry

Harry, the NULL Target has a single large Siemen's Star for clear, accurate focusing. To add any additional patterns would have increased price and delayed the product. We felt that 99% of the use of the NULL Target on the NULL Lens would be to clearly set backfocus in the field, so we went with the quickest, lowest cost and highest quality tool to perform this function.

Devices to perform additional functions and measurements in the NULL family are in development.

The excellent 1st AC Phil Anderson just introduced me to this product today. Used it to check back focus on two bodies, worked great:hurray:

EDIT: Used The NULL Lens, not the Target which isn't released as far as I know

Ordered. IB/E company is smart. When u use Null Lens to adjust back focus, it's difficult to be accurate. Be honest, when I ordered Null Lens, I though it was the only one, and they didn't mention the Target on the website. But I still support Null Target.

Phil says the target is a must if you are using the null lens out in the wilderness. no sharp edges of buildings in the distance makes it tough to tell if you are sharp.

We?
how come?
did abel cine buy in into IB/E Optics?
edit: asking curiously, not sarcastic
