Hello everyone,

wanted to share this short film I made for ABOVE-Magazine.
I shoot online content for them and soon for the publication. I was already in the
Caribbean shooting a pilot when I got a call from Summer (the model) to stop by the DR to shoot her getting covered in bees.
This was a run and gun shoot with zero crew. I did not have any time or budget for proper color session and audio mix, this was a rushed job but I hope you enjoy it.

Shot with Zeiss ZF (f mount) primes and a tokina 11-16 on a RED ONE 1781.

Cheers

Fascinating!

Also one man crew for sure will rule the future of cinematography especially using Epic and Scarlet accompanied with some of lightweight still lenses.

Also I forgot to add that naked model is a gorgeous girl.

Really nice work Clayton.

The whole thing was paced really well and shot beautifully.

You should be proud of this.

Not to take anything away from you, but for me the star of the shoot was Summer. I'm not speaking of her considerable beauty here, but her attitude.

For an actor or model to stand uncomplaining, naked, covered with bees in the pelting rain, and to come back to set the next day with a great attitude is an amazingly supportive thing to do.

Makes some of the goofiness we all get regularly "can I get my co-actor there for an eyeline?" Uhm, all the rigging is there, we'd have to totally relight, "Well I really need him/her to play off of." or the third "I'm really not feeling it can I get another actors take" or "what lens are you using, I really look better on a 100." Uhm, we're shooting in a bathroom... look pretty silly.

:-)

I wish there were more like her on both sides of the camera.

Congratulations to you and the team,

Steve

Thanks folks, the model is Summer Rayne Oakes and she rocks my world, a pleasure to work with. I am gearing up some big campaigns with her very soon, more on that later. Yes its amazing what one man crew can do these days but I wont say that I enjoyed that aspect of the shoot! I almost killed myself running around with an R1 in that heat! Sanjin you make a good...EPIC/Scarlet is going to be a lifesaver, specially on these kinds of run-n-gun global trekking guerrilla shoots. The makeup girl should get camera assistent credit!

SR Oakes should be soon model turned actress. She is pretty good and has something magnetic and charismatic in her preformance...

That's one of reason I sold my RED MX three months ago.

Can't move easy and work fast with heavy camera like a RED1 MX or even Alexa...for me this is not making sense...

Also have long ago experience in theater with acting, lighting and directing...

I need a camera that can be much less obstructive and almost invisible to acting performance to capture finest details of a play...

Waiting for Epic and Scarlet...and to see what will cover my needs from both...

Thanks Stephen, I cant agree with you more. Summer Rayne Oakes is a star. I met her on a Discovery shoot and almost go in trouble for having too much fun, now she keeps me pretty busy. I will pass along the kind words. :)

Very well done indeed - I have been thinking about keeping some bees myself..

I get the feeling watching this when you give respect to a insect that cannot understand words, it spills onto the entire cast and crew.

Also, props to Summer!

@ Steve - those are pretty slick!

@ Clayton - A former colleague of mine started a urban colony in downtown Atlanta, they have been thriving. They are right at home.

I kinda want one due to poor yield on our tomato plants this year. We usually have quite a crop (for a porch garden anyway), but every year they have been dwindling. We were guessing poor pollination.

( and I love honey in my coffee! )

Great work and great subject Clay, Bravo... now please send me a Jar of Honey hehe.

You got it Ketch, I will have Summer sign and deliver the 1st jar in the batch just for you buddy. ;)

Thanks for your comments on The Bee Shoot

Thanks for your comments on The Bee Shoot

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for your interest in the bee shoot. It was really amazing. Basically called Clay to see if he could whip this shoot out and it was nothing less than spectacular. Good thing he was already down in the Caribbean. But yeah - he was a one-man show with a little help from our friends in Puntacana.

But he got right up there close to the bees...to really capture what was happening. And thanks for all you kind comments on my work,

If you guys are in New York, I'll be having an exotic honey taste testing in conjunction with a sustainable design workshop so you can taste firsthand some Puntacana forest honey... :-)

Welcome to Reduser Summer...you will find a supportive lot here. :) Enjoying the Puntacana honey in my tea now.

Ok, now I have to blow some sunshine...but for real, Summer rocks! Most active young women i know in both eco, fashion, and sustainable design communities. I would love to see her do some acting! What you think Summer, time to do movie?

Nice job, C.H. Very nice video.

I'm a big fan of Summer, too. I actually edited a Discovery show a couple years back called "It's Easy Being Green" where she was a big part of one segment. Was that what you worked on? She's awesome and deserves great things...so smart, down to earth and of course, beautiful.
