  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nuclear powered RED ONE system...

Yes, temperature is indeed an issue with these cells. If it's much below freezing outside, these cells are worthless. Makes them a no-go for us. :-(

Lastly buying hydrogen seems like a hurdle to get over. With standard batteries, being able to refill them off of house power becomes a serious convenience by comparison. I can't imagine trying to get my hydrogen canister refilled in rural / remote / foreign areas.

You can make hydrogen from water. While for total off the grid work you couldnt easily refill it yourself, if you are able to go to a location with power nearby, you could add water and electricity in a fairly simple device and refill your hydrogen tank.

That is a crazy looking piece of kit:) I wonder what they would do if you tried to check that at an airport....

Currently you can ship the power system and hydrogen cannisters via Air Cargo only. We are working through the approval process for passenger planes. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Agreed. A specific operating range would be very important.

0-49 degrees C.

Also does it have to be open like that or could it be a bit more enclosed? I'd make it as tough as possible and that tube part looks a bit exposed, same goes for the internals on the right.

I agree, for your application the system needs to be more ruggedized. Our next generation model takes this into consideration and provides more protection for the hydrogen cannisters.

Would be nice if the next generation had 110/240 power, instead of just 110, it surprises me at times how many companies fail to take in consideration overseas sales.

Surely looks interesting and promising, a revision for work in the Film industry it is definitely needed, especially in the temperature ranges, both high and lows, and an inclusive operational unit a MUST.

What I currently use the most are the Honda 2000 UI Super quite generators, also 50lb, but even so they are super quite, manny times they are not quiet in off, so look forward to developments of this units Andrew.

I had high hopes for Butane/Propane powered Wankel rotary engined mini generators some years ago. Nothing seems to have surfaced yet. Somebody even made one for laptops if memory serves. Too many issues perhaps.

So how long do they last? How much hydrogen do they use? How much does it cost? How much do they rent for, etc, etc.. any links would be appreciated. I never heard of these before.

Run time depends on power draw, but as a general rule, the XRT with 6 cannisters of hydrogen will provide 12 hours of run time @ 100 W. Cannisters are "hot swappable" to provide extended run times.

Pricing is in the $10-12K range. As manufacturing volumes increase we'll be able to drive cost down. We are currently exploring rental programs but do not have this in place as of yet.

Our next generation version will have a squid box that attaches to the main unit and can be equipped with 240 capability to address this need.
