NTSC to PAL conversion

Could please someone explain me how this is done...
It is a conversion to 25 fps right? Does one achieve that by dropping, merging, blending 5 frames per second? What is the best and common technik, the best software that post houses use?
Would be a great help.

I can´t answer all your questions, but I can point you to the best solution for an affordable amount of money, and that is the plug in: Standards Conversion for FCP, made by REDs own Graeme Nattress.

i once got hvx200 footage shot at 30fps, i imported it into fcp and exported a tiff sequence, imported this into avid (25fps timeline) and imported the original audio and did a timestretch and dumped this to digital betacam PAL.

after this procedure i came across the magic plugins made by Graeme - and yes, they do a great job and Graeme was very helpful on my questions!

I think I read through all instructions on the homepage, but I'm still not sure, if I get it right.
Does the Plug in also transcode to 25fps in HD or does it just work for NTSC to PAL conversion in Standart quality?
The technik sounds great. Is it simmilar to the one post houses use?
