  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Now the big Q... How do you store all your footage??

There are more benefits to the A series drives then just being MXF aware. At the moment, most of these benefits are ease of use and integration into existing infrastructure. For example, the LTO3A drive connects to any computer with an ethernet port and is cross platform. The drive is simply accessed through a java applet using your normal web browser. All you do is log in and drag and drop files to and from the tape drive. Integration of this system is so simple, you can even plug it into your existing network by going straight into your router or switch and then it's available to every computer on your network, PC or Mac. Keep in mind too that the A series is Quantum's first line of drives built specifically for the film and video industry, so they are just starting to tap into a whole new area and are taking it seriously as well. There is word that future firmware updates are going to make these drives much more integrated with current editing systems as well, but this is yet to be seen. So do these current features make it worth the difference in money? The answer there is different for everyone. For us, simply being able to use the one drive on any computer we have is a huge benefit and time saver.

So the HH series is simply a drive whereas the A series is a network backup appliance complete with a CPU and a firmware web app for backup purposes. That explains a lot. (Why can't they just put that on the website instead of all the marketing garbage?)

Thanks Jeremy...
