  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

It is like comparing a fully loaded Toyota Capri all pimped out vs a F1. But since Epic is the F1, maybe the scarlet would be an indy.

I truly don't think Canon is going to come even closer, from the fact that I don't think, they are going to go bigger than 1080. Why should they?. Prosumer are their main market. RED is not only cool hardware but also powerful software, which in my opinion, it is the most powerful tool that RED offers and it's free. R3D files are incredible. Canon is not known to write software. When the 5D came out, everyone went crazy since the quality and the price were shocking. I have some clients that say they did not need a RED. But after the dust settled and dealer with the limitations. ALL CAME BACK.

I have a gut feeling that the light at the end of the tunnel that Canon thinks they see is in reality an oncoming Red train.

November 3rd is the day that RED announces all the changes to Scarlet and shipping info. You get to see the future Nov. 3rd. You get to compare RED's latest directly with the newest from one of the "big dogs" in the industry. What a day!

Bart, they are delivering that people can afford, and they will destroy the competition. Scarlet is priced to compete against a lot of Cameras like Canon XLHD, Sony F1 and others. But none come even close to the specs we are hearing about. The closet thing seems to be sony's f3 at 16k but it still a far cry from Scarlets capabilities, two years ago you'd have spend something like 60-150k and still would not touch it... and jim is hinting at some major news!!!

The large majority of people here want a great camera, and we are willing to pay what it's worth. Saying we want it for xxxx dollars will get us no where. There are many camera with in your price point. You may want to look at them. If you want a scarlet, then your going to have to figure out a plan to pay for one like everyone here. I would much rather pay more for everything I want, then get an inferior camera. If jim packs more into the camera, then even better! If it adds a grand, I'm sure it will mean I have to spend less on camera in the future.

At this point I think the price is pretty much set by the design. Jim and the red gang are giving us the future at an amazing price.

You do realize that an EPIC-M can be bought now and the M brain is only $4K more than the X brain when you compare 2012 pricing... Just sayin'

How much is it worth to you to have it now vs. ???
 
And thanks RED team, November 3rd will be a day to remember! I'll be refreshing and living off RedBull and Jellybeans at my office computer until November 3rd. I already have the maintenance guy installing a waterproof casing on my computer for when I have to use my newly installed office shower :)

I'm as giddy as a school girl! I should have a wicked beard by then too. I tend to do that with Hockey (playoff beard), and editing (movie beard), I'm starting the Scarlet beard. No shaving til I have a Scarlet in hand! It has worked for movies :)

I usually keep my mouth shut about announcements, and i planned to wait for an EPIC-S...

But then everything changed... :bigear:

So i guess i'll be there too on november 4th at 9am from shanghai...
Just before going to work.......................... if i don't forget about it and spend the day on red store :emote_happyhappy:
 
Cleared all appointments and taking the day off from school - so bring it! 8D
 
I thought on Nov 3rd Canon were announcing the film they created with Ron Howard via people sending in photographs to inspire 'The Story'. Are you sure they are revealing a camera?
