  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

November 13th...

That's a good approach: The valuable info in an announce thread and all the discussion in another thread [with a link].

Patiently waiting for the Revelation on the 13th of November...

yes karapetkov.. with a thread of "one sole post" seems the reception can never be bad.. ehehehehehe

So is the DSMC forum here going bye-bye?

More cameras than sport shoes on set.....

More cameras than sport shoes on set.....

I actually don't know what they are shooting - I'm sure it's all under NDA - we are just sub-renting a few cameras - you can bet there will be some press on a shoot like that -

Im not breaking a NDA by repeating what I've heard:).... that it is a NIKE commercial with a director well known for trying new techniques.
Some/all cameras will be synchnonised and it is a fairly short post production period before it airs.

Over half a billion pixels utilised in one place at one time!
Beats Lars Von Trier's record of Dancer in the Dark with 100 DV cams...

Hmmm...verrry interesting...seems they want to break the Quantum of Solace record of 8 Dalsa Origins (I haven't seen the film yet - does anyone know what the shot involved and what sequence it crops up in?)

Do you think this might be a clue:
http://edition.cnn.com/2008/TECH/11/06/hologram.yellin/index.html
Or maybe it's for one of those "3-D frozen time" things but with a much longer duration, since you could just let all the cameras free-run for 6 minutes.

Or maybe something like "Imitation of life" by REM?

A couple of seconds of action cycled back and forth in a frame that has enough resolution to be zoomed in and still be delivered as HD... Just a thought.

Makes so much sense. I like the sound of it...sounds like a lot of info. Can't wait. Although I do enjoy the Sherlock Holmes approach of deducing from dutch-angled renders...its fun

is that what they are all for? I had no idea. Should be a parade with all those reds.

i bet the insurance for that shoot has to be insanely expensive...

that shoot sounds insanely expensive.
geez.

Assuming accessories and glass in the neighborhood of $27.5K per camera... that's over $1,500,000 wrth of cameras...

does this mean that DSMC and Scarlet have been rolled into one product?

Didn't Scarlet have something like a 2/3" sensor? Obviously, that would make it highly non-competitive in the dSLR space. If it now has a full-frame sensor, wouldn't that make it far more expensive than Scarlet was supposed to be?

I think there will be a choice of sensor sizes/lens mounts in a completely modular system. 2/3" has advantages for a compact motion picture camera with a high performance broad ranged zoom lens at a modest price for many kinds of shooting, especially documentaries.
35mm doesn't work well because the necessary optics get too big, heavy and expensive.

Then how can Scarlet and the DSMC be the same product? If you're assuming it's all by modularity, then trading out the sensor, processing and lens system (remember, Scarlet was supposed to be fixed-lens) pretty much means a whole new product.
