  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

November 13th... prep.

He didn't make a comment, he asked a question.

I was referring to his comment, "Video/motion isn't very interesting to me." Sorry for my misleading quotation. Also, I was joking in case that wasn't as blatantly obvious as I thought.

I may add that the PCO sensor was developed by the same guys who did the Phantom sensor, but just a couple of years later - just for stopping any discussion that might pop up "why the Phantom must be better than the (unknown) PCO...".

And they did not the RED sensors, for sure...

:)

Axel

Axel, specs are not everything. And those are also not the only specs! Anyone with access to a PCO or Weisscam-II is welcome to come meet with me for a technical shootout with a Phantom HD and we'll see how they compare.

...of course it may take a while as the Phantom HD can dump the files to CineMags at high speed while the Weisscam-II will output in "realtime." Tick, tick, tick goes the production day.

I'll be doing a Red workshop on the 13th. That should be very interesting if the announcement has been made by the time the workshop starts. Something tells me I may be fielding a lot of questions about some new cameras and I will have to get up to speed quickly. To save time and to be better prepared, I phoned Jim and he gave me all of the details ahead of time. Talk about customer service.

Steve,

just saw your predictions on your blog. I have to say, if it were so, I would be floored.

Actually, I'm probably off on a lot of it, but you never know. Thanks for checking out the blog.

I think all the people begging others to stop discussing their opinions has made it super lame.

I'm excited for Thursday, and I'm glad I'll be on set(with my RED) so I won't be tempted to hang out hitting refresh all morning.

Yawn.

Similar to my reaction if Jim had said Epic would have super high fps and everyone including you wouldn't stop talking about how amazing it is(which it would be obv). Soon enough there will be MANY threads talking about the Nov. 13 announcement and I guarantee every one of them will have people talking about other stuff that isn't pertinent. It's just the way it goes.

They will reveal that it is indeed alien technology, as I always said...
The world will never be the same again

"1000 FPS in Scarlet in SD"

Mi thought: RED at 4 k= 120 fps.
Its amazing for me.
But I dont need 4 k
What's about 2 k at 240?
And 1 k at 480 fps?
and 0,5 k at 960 fps?

But may be more complicated than this.
I´m an ignorant.
I Just were semi joking!!!
I´m amazed with 13 announcement. Lets talk about this... Is the tread name.

Scarlet and EPIC will be monumental. But they will not do everything. And they will not be free. If you are disappointed in the announcement, I will be amazed.

We are so excited about what we will announce that is is hard to contain...

Just another day.

Jim

Isn't there anything you want to announce prior?

Look at it as a torturous honey trail leading to the 13th.....

Why not have some fun....??

Otherwise with no information all we're going to do on mass is come back on Thursday.

"1000 FPS in Scarlet in SD"

Not at all Jim. The tread conversations concerning high speed have been productive. As a owner/op the ability to shoot at 150, 75, 48 fps is critical for my work and something many of us use all the time. A HS Red camera that shot 360 - 500 fps would certainly be useful and as Mitch and others pointed out 1000 fps is utilized more than many realize, this won't be a standard production camera - but we can dream. And if it could be incorporated as an option it would be great. And a very strong selling point for many of us indeed, with some happy to pay a bit more for it.

These forums are for giving the manufacturing team direct feedback. The ability to have straight dialogue with the camera designers is brilliant. I don't own a Red but I'm very interested. The speed issue is one factor in considering a purchase. From my POV the topic has made Jim and his team aware of just how many of us need higher frame rates. That said I look forward to learning the new camera specs. Cheers to Red for their commitment to listen to camera folk and evolve.

I expect only the monumental on the 13th. But I do not expect the ridiculous, nor the unnecessary. God bless the Beasts and the Children.
E PLURIBUS REDUM.

im afraid

I'm with you, miguel. Part of me is dreading tomorrow, because if scarlet gives you 90% of the value of red for 1/10th the price, the rental and resell market is shot. that absolutely qualifies as "wish i had waited."

let's hope that isn't the case. I would love for this to be a great announcement i can be excited about.
