  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nov 3rd Scarlet Prediction

I hope you don't do your own accounts

I was also wondering the same.....Further you cannot do business on calculators...There is something called PRODUCT SUPPORT also.
and everyone is here to do business...RED is not an NGO....I thing people should read the RECON expectations thread..

again, for people who dont read. I said " just a figure" I am not an accountant. Nor do I care about accounting. It was an example. If I was there accountant I'd take more than 5 seconds to do it. EXAMPLE no more no less

Scarlet is listed as a pro camera... Maybe non union productions will let you slide by with a 2/3" sensor, but union projects 90% of the time are going to want a S35.

add 1x128Gb SSD and here you go - $6K , "give or take"
wasn't that the target price?

A Scarlet package will obviously be cheaper when you buy all at once... or Itll be at least 10,000 for a camera that they initially wanted 3,000 for 3k.

I forgot the Read station you need to unload your SSD.

$ 250

So if that was all in a 6k package you would get a scarlet + lens for free. So when ordering an Epic Brain, always order the scarlet package, too....

looking at the Epic package price the difference is really insignificant

I agree with you, I feel like Epics are so exspensive ( not really when comparing to normal cinema cameras) but 40k is way more than 6k... that leaving the package accessories close to the same price point is acceptable. But I agree with you

Well, I can't remember Ted ever holding a RED station in his left hand when saying "around $6000", so no need to count that in. For the record, I also think Ted's Scarlet Fixed has a CF-module (which I would much prefer over SSD).

But regardless, if you look in the shop and add the prices, it doesn't add up, I'll give you that.

Still, the only price indication that we've got is around $6k. And that was not 3 years ago. It was Ted with a pretty recent Scarlet configuration.

I wouldn't hold the price agains him/RED, but one has to think that RED has had a lot of time to sneak in yet and other heads up about the price if they knew 6k would never work.

People are going crazy with all kinds of speculation, but regarding price, I'd say that hoping for a "cheap" Scarlet is still within reason.

Hmmm...just checked the shop.
SSD Module $ 1500
Side Handle $ 950
Display $ 1600
Charger $ 125
Redvolt $ 195

That´s everthing except media.$ 4370....

Don't forget some of this stuff is gone up in 2012..so you need to order by end of year to get the old price.

3. Given the tragedy in Japan, EPIC-X production was delayed. The other side effect is that prices of many things have gone up. Given this, we are announcing a price increase on some items that will take effect on January 1st, 2012. If you have your order and deposit in before Dec. 31, 2011 you will get the old price. Any new orders placed after Jan. 1, 2012 will be charged the new price. Price increases in bold.

Product .................................... OLD PRICE ... NEW PRICE

DSMC Side Handle ........................ $950 ....... $1,750
RED Touch LCD 5" ........................$1,600 .... $1,950
REDmote ..................................... $550 ....... $750
Pro Battery Module (Dual) ..............$1,250 ..... $1,450

For the record, I also think Ted's Scarlet Fixed has a CF-module (which I would much prefer over SSD).
Why would you prefer CF? When comparing the 128 GB SSD with the 16 GB CF card, you get $ 14 per GB on the SSD and $ 18,75 on the CF card -> 33 % price increase.

If 3rd party cards worked, like the Lexar 600x I would also be in favour of a CF module, but I thought they will only run in 2k mode

I'm really starting to get lost on here. Is it just me or is it getting a little crazy around here.

Don't get me wrong I love discussion, and I've tried to speculate a few times in my head to what it could/would be, but I'm still accepting it for what we already know about it. I really believe it will be close to what it was. With upgrades being in firmware. I mean be realistic folks. It takes alot of time to produce, stress test, and ship cameras of RED's caliber. Add in the complexity of a smaller body, and a fixed lens. Remember when we saw the Army of Scarlets photo, and it had the new heatsink on it? My guess, maybe they were going into production already.

They've said it from day 1 that they wouldn't say anything else until they would ship, they also said before they wanted to have enough made to prevent backorder. That may not happen but I'd expect they'll have a good supply for the initial onslaught.

As far as price, I wouldn't know where to start. On the fixed and interchangeable if that is what we get I'd expect a bit of a price jump due to the japan tragedies.

Everyone, and no offense, alot of members joining in the last month are kind of going overboards IMO. Some expecting what pretty much is an Epic for Scarlet prices. I'm not saying don't have fun, dream, imagine, but Jim himself said be realistic.

Your going to get a good camera, your going to get a good deal. It's been a long road for all of us. We have one week. No matter how you look at it, I can't think of a camera with 3K, 120FPS, HDRX, RedCode RAW, or any of those features for under 10K. If you can please point me too it. I understand some of us may get out priced with an increased...that's a reality for me as well. But I haven't waited this long saving, and dreaming of the day I could own this camera to drop it entirely. If I can't afford it right away, I'll buy a body and work hard to afford the rest. Jim and RED work hard for us. Let's give back, they work endless hours, we should too.

I firmly believe in supporting the company that supports you. If you can't afford it right away (some won't be able to I'd assume) don't throw your fists up in anger and go make an impulse buy of something else, work hard, save and get there. Because you know in the long run you'll regret it.

Sorry for the rant, don't know where it belongs, it's a mix of thoughts from newer threads.

Be realistic folks. What was already on the table is amazing. Demanding and expecting more is natural and exciting, but you have to remember that it was already a good deal. Let's be patient. One more week. I don't mind speculation but please don't propose an Epic in a Scarlet body for under 10K.

If you want that. Save for an Epic. RED owes us nothing.

That price increase on the DSMC side handle is what makes me think we'll see at least one other control/power option on Nov. 3. I mean, if the price needs to almost double in a few months, that means RED is practically giving them away now, or probably even taking a loss. Epic profit margins probably cover the difference now, but would RED multiply those losses by 10,000 by letting Scarlet buyers have it at the Old Price?

So in order to keep the price down, but still keep the original concept of the package (brain, monitor, control, power, side SSD, lens for Fixed, no media), I'm guessing we'll see some options on kits that could include a simplified handle with fewer controls and a battery. Hopefully also tether-able. Since controls all can work through the touch-screen, the RedMote might drop out of the most basic kit too. Ted did say in that "around $6,000" video that contents of the kit were still being determined.

The Epic -s was priced at 12k... it is not unrealistic for the scarlet to totally jump to S35 for the higher end models. Why would they tease about a base epic and cancel it , then not make up for it in a different way . All im saying

Your making a prediction in a prediction topic and saying its ridiculous to predict. Everyone is entitled to there own thinking. Nothing is impossible. Ever think they make a few of them and test the hell out of the final make. Red does not rush, that we all know
