  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Not getting a feed via HDMI

Search didn't show anything useful...

I have the 5" Touch mounted, but I want to set up a preview monitor as well. I plugged in an HDMI feed to my 15" Monitor and turned on the Scarlet. Went into the menus, disabled SDI and set HDMI to Preview/Auto. Confirmed, shut down, and rebooted. The monitor says NO SIGNAL and then when I power up, that disappears so I know it's getting something. But the screen stays black.

I've tried 720p and 1080p and no dice.

Any ideas?
 
Might help if you give some detail on what monitor you are trying to use.
I tried some older marshall monitors with no results - but meanwhile my SmallHD and the TV Logic monitor work fine.
My Zacuto EVF didn't work until I updated the firmware on it.

Point is - it may very well by the monitor, not the Scarlet output, that is the problem.
 
It's just a 15" Viewsonic TV.

It might just be that, it works fine with my 7D, and it worked great with my old HVX200.
 
My first shoot with the Scarlet this last sunday had the same issue. We rented an old marshall monitor and no matter what I did, I couldn't get an image to register, other than a black screen. Scarlet issue, I believe.

Sorry, I should say that we had a friends Lilliput here yesterday and we were able to get an HDMI feed. But that was from his camera (we had both set up). So perhaps mine is a bit different? We're both on 3.0.0 btw.

So it must be the monitor.
 
Just for the record, my Sharp LED works fine. I wouldn't rule out the fact that it could be a panel issue. Try some others first?
 
Scarlet outputs over HDMI at either 1080p60 or 720p60. I've had a few issues getting capture cards like ones from Blackmagic to work with Scarlet's HDMI feed, but I haven't yet heard of anyone having issues running it into a monitor. Have you tried connecting it to another display/TV?

You may want to file a support ticket with RED, also.
 
Scarlet's output is strictly progressive, and some TVs don't like that, they expect PsF. It's not really RED's fault, since true progressive is part of the standard. But, in a real world, RED should consider offering PsF too, since many Scarlet buyers might want to use TVs.
 
I've seen a number of posts where hdmi monitors would not work - and 99% of the hdmi capture's from BlackMagic, Matrox, etc. won't work currently - as well as many 3rd party hdmi recorders.

I was told that RED will be bringing out 23.98p, 24p, etc. on a future firmware release (unclear if interlaced is in the works, but that would certainly be useful also. I'm just after the lower progressive outputs).

If it's important to you to have your existing monitor's work (if we have to buy new monitors or capture devices, we can't spend that money on RED products), then let RED know in support tickets.

My guess is that your monitor would work at 1080p24 (if it plays a 24p BluRay now), so I'm hoping RED brings that out soon (as they have on the SDI outputs).
 
Same here. HDMI works on my 46" Aquos. Does not work on my Tote Vision 703HD nor my Dell 2405FPW. Support ticket submitted. We'll see what happens.

The problem is that it won't work on his monitor.

As others in this thread have reported, that includes some Marshall monitors designed for monitoring video, as well as HDTV's that are designed for DVD and BluRay.

None of the pro level capture cards I own, from Black Magic and Matrox, will work - and I also use a Samsung HDTV for monitoring.

I believe RED is going to add more frame rates (23.98p, 24p, etc), which would solve the problem for me.

If it's important to you that your existing monitors and capture devices work, let RED know, as they have to prioritize their software efforts.

The more people who report that they'd rather spend their money on RED accessories than buying new monitors, the quicker it might get done.
 
I don´t have a RED monitor or a HD-SDI monitor now and I´m trying to get a picture out of my new Scarlet... I´ve had it for a week and tried a range of different HDMI monitors and TV´s supporting 480/60i, 480/60p, 576/50i, 576/50p, 720/50p, 720/60p, 1080/50i, 1080/60i, 1080/50p, 1080/60p and 1080/24p but there is still nothing :/

Is HDMI supported from the start or do I need a HD-SDI monitor (or a RED monitor)?
Do I need a RED monitor to turn of HD-SDI and turn on HDMI?
My bomb squad said HDMI should work just fine, but after reading so manny posts about this I´m wondering what others have done and if it has been successful? :)

I´m getting a RED 5,6" monitor next week but really, really, really want to see this camera produce some kind of picture so that I´ll know if it works at all (other than showing me a green PWR led and running it´s little fan at full speed) :)

I'm having the exact same problem! I took my camera to connect to an HD-SDI monitor and I couldn't see any menu's so I wasn't able to find the option to switch to HDMI. I vaguely remember reading somewhere in the manual that with firmware 3.0 you can contact your bomb squad rep for a preset file that will allow you to boot up your camera with HDMI enabled. But I can't seem to find where I read it again. I just sent my rep an email so hopefully I will hear back from him soon. He should still be sleeping :)

this is becoming a joke!!! I am tired of Red and all those problems. I had an awful day on the set and thanks to Red!!!
I sent my monitor for a quote to repair some scratches and some black spot and now after a week of quote period is back and it does not work anymore....f...k!!!!
