So this entire past week I was in Grand Rapids on a special shoot. Many of you may not know what a Nooma is, but for those that do, you know that they are fantastic spiritual short films that are enormous sellers. Well, we got to bring our Red camera up to do some tests and even shoot a new pilot for a non-religious version for teens. I don't really have the authority to show much or say much, so I'm going to give you as much as I feel that I can without crossing any boundaries.

I'm posting a 50 second clip of our red footage we shot right next to an Arri 535B. This is of the speaker, Rob Bell, and he is talking directly into the Arri. Our Red was standing directly next to it. There is no sound and we shot it with our Angenieux 25-250 (non HR/HP). It's compressed heavily into an H.264.

I've gotten one of these in the past and took a look at it. It was interesting but personally didn't find it all that great.

I didn't know they were shooting this stuff on film... or has production value gone up?

And was the RED soley for tests and not for the film?

Nooma has fantastic production value. Easily the best christian video series on the market today. When did Rob start wearing his grandmas glasses?

Can you post a clip from the Arri 535B that would be comparable? Would love to see a side by side test featuring both cameras. Also, was the Red footage CC?

I won't be able to show the 535B footage cause I don't have it. I don't believe they have it developed yet. When they do there was talks of editing it side-by-side, but I'm not sure if that's going to happen or not.

The first 8 or so Nooma's were a little less in production value, but by 9 (I believe) they hired Pete Biagi to DP them and started using 35mm (they used 16mm early on) and started to really up the ante on them. Watch one like Nooma 011 "Rhythm" and you'll see what I mean. Excellent stuff.

The Red clip has mild color correction on it. And Rob just got new glasses! LOL!

Love NOOMA. I think they are really well done... Rob always makes me think. Good job guys..

I've always enjoyed watching this series. I was wondering when they would make the jump.
