Just to past the time and have some fun while trying to keep patient, I have been noodling with some 3D modeling. This is the "page not found" website spider from RED.

Just learning mechanical modeling and I thought the image of the mechanical spider was really cool. Just fun copy (not profit, head nod and kudus to the original artist)

I was hoping my Scarlet would be here but this has been fun. I'm might track in when I get the camera and do a little animation. WIP.

Thanks a lot Stu. Yes, I do pro work when it comes to 3D graphic animation but for the last couple of years I had been focusing on character study. So this was a bit of breakaway for me to do hard body mechanic models. So the excitement of anticipation of waiting for my Scarlett has been a good thing.

Very cool! Hope you give the animation "purpose" like the spider decimating an alexa or a c300, in a shootout. The word "BUZZSAW" also comes to mind too! lol

Hi Alonzo,

Nice work! We did this a couple of years ago too. We modeled in 3ds Max and recently have brought into Maya and are animating now.

Here is our model:

OutSTANDING Alan!!! Looks Gorgeous!! I see superb job. I see you worked out many areas that I am still trying to figure out. I did definitely wanted to use springs for the pistons. I like what you did with the body and how you made it a round orb. Can I see a wire of what you did with the joint at the body? I looks like you make a hole. That pretty much the solution I want to go with. The color is also great. Yes, this is my first mechanical for Maya. Quite a learning. Thanks for making it that much MORE FUN!!!

So you are an animator/Red User? Yes, my Scarlet will be here shortly. I'm hoping to do some animation can composites. What do you do with your Animation and RedUser skills!!! Thanks for the awesome post.

Hi Alonzo,

Yes, I will be happy to make a mesh output for you. Might have to be next week. We have full animation and rigging now. The springs and all are fully functional.

On of my animators is working on the last of the rigging to give it character. It moves with a very nice and realistic expression now. We have it leaping and all. The body has a full cockpit with operators station and chair.

I am hoping to use the model in my unboxing video for my EPIC in a week or so.

I should have noted that the original model is actually created in Autodesk Inventor so it can be output for CNC machining.

I hope to make 3D modeling and RED Epic footage compositions for VFX soon. Have not had much time to do that with my RED One but have been looking to make more time for that.

Keep up the good work!

Oh Man!!! Your solution for the gears is smart !! And look at the complexity of that geometry! This is a really great job especially to do it in a manufacturable way. I'm also very impressed with the blending of surfaces at for the two bottom circles into the rim of the big one circle. I really dig that.

I lost a little steam on my rendition but this is inspirational and I'll try to pick it up again soon. I might try the spheres for the joint to leg connection because I'm not quite happy with what I have devised. I do want to rig it and animate mine as well but I haven't thought of having a driver inside. That is awesome idea however, I am limited by budget and time. Still I do want to do a cockpit like scene for something and this is as good as any. I should give it some thought.

I'm also looking at your site. Very impressive. I'm looking forward to further talking shop with you. Thanks for the grand pics. I'm will upload more when I get started again. My side-Handle for my battery will be here soon so now the rubber meets the road.

Hey guys, it's been a while I know. I was learning how to use and rig my Scarlet "Job's Joy". I'm loving the Scarlet. I want to share this. I have been learning tracking with Syntheyes. I like it alot. This is one test that I used my pilot steadicam. However it's proxy not final output. I hope you enjoy the RED spider bot.
