  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Nolan

Again, for me, this is not about "best" director. That would be Terrence Malick :)

But I must say, how the hell did Nolan let that dying scene of Myranda's get through... It must be the worst acted dying scene I have ever seen. It was the conversation of the night when we left the theatre.... Other than that, it's GOLD !

Haha my thoughts exactly Mark, couldn't believe that made the cut

In time, once the hype has died down, I think DKR will be compared to DK as Return of the Jedi is compared to Empire Strikes Back.

Spielberg will remain the king of the hill until he lays down his film stock for good. Simple.

+1

Has anyone seen the range of this man? Jaws, E.T., Indiana Jones, Schindler's List, Saving Private Ryan, Close Encounters, Jurassic Park, Munich, Minority Report, Tintin, Catch me if you Can, ...

Yes, I'll agree that he had some misses recently (Indiana Jones 4 was awful, really awful, War Horse had very good but also very awful moments, and I'm not a big fan of the Terminal either). But I really liked Minority Report (modern classic, except for maybe the ending) and Munich for example too. And those are recent.
I also can't wait to see what Spielberg is going to do with Lincoln, with Daniel Day Lewis. Should be very interesting.
Considering his age and what this man has made and achieved, I'm surprised he still keeps so busy in such a broad range of different films. Making Munich and War of the Worlds in the same year... Going from Tintin to Lincoln almost immediately, and also making another science fiction too (the Robocalyps, or how is it called?)

Cameron has made some good things, and I really have huge respect for how demanding he is, but I do think he's overrated a bit. I actually really liked Titanic for instance but I really thought Avatar was one very mediocre movie.

Nolan... yes, he's very promising, now and in the future. Memento is one of my all-time favorites. For me it was a great combination of Nolan's clever screenwriting, and being able to really show emotion (the moment where Leonard talks in bed about his condition while Nathalie is sleeping next to him gets me every time). Brilliant movie.
Didn't think Insomnia was that great. The Prestige had some very good moments, and I like it, but I don't think it's a masterpiece at all.
Inception... had some great things, but could have been much better then it was to my opinion. The moment where *SPOILERS* in the first dream layer there suddenly is a big talk about limbo... was in screenwriting sense a very weak moment in my opinion, almost ruined the movie.
I wasn't a big fan of Batman Begins initially, but really liked The Dark Knight in its second half (and had a renewned respect for Batman Begins afterwards, although the fight scenes are still very weak... compare it to how Spielberg can stage action... my god).
And really looking forward to seeing The dark Knight Rises, and whatever Nolan will do next.
Haven't seen Following yet. And I agree that it's nice to see how Nolan transitioned from small to (really) big movies without dumbing them down. That gets a lot of respect for me.

To be honest, Aronofsky is in my top list too, but you couldn't call him king of Hollywood.
