G I appreciate that your up reading my posts and that you take the time to be thoughtful.
Today I was going for a low exposure with darks after sundown, shooting a treeline in the fog. My aperture was full open at F3 on a Red Zoom 17-50mm but I just couldn't seem to get enough light for shooting in this condition. All underexposed. These are the times I really like to be shooting. I can shoot the same scene earlier in the day and darken in post. I was hoping I could capture this. Most outdoor ambient lit scenes at night seem out of my reach with the current lens. I'm trying to figure out if a faster lens will help me to accomplish my low exposure goals.
Same thing with a scene lit by bonfire or torches, I was hoping to use these sources but it seems I have to add a lighting kit to the scene.

(derailing here, but I conciously call it a low exposure, NOT an underexposure. There's nothing bad in exposing LOW, if you are certain you want a dark image, it's when you try to lift it all kinds of stuff hits fans....)
