Just rented a Dragon this weekend and noticed a problem. Going over daillies in RCX (latest version), I'm seeing an abnormal amount of noise. I've attached a jpg snapshot. We shot this frame at ISO 1280, ND.6, F4. 5K FF, 96fps, 1/192th shutter, 5600K. DragonColor, RG4

You have what seems to be a valid concern about the noise and there is obviously still some understanding about the noise profile that needs to be done by shooters and by RED. The first thing someone else will ask is if you black shaded properly at those settings. That may make a big difference. The second and most obvious question from a cinematography POV is why did you have an ND in rather than just pulling it and shooting at 320ISO? As you probably have heard, the Dragon tends to perform extremely well at the lower ISO's and should not take anything much in the way of a hit DR wise. That may be a better plan for the near future until all this noise is sorted out.

Ok false alarm!! I took the files over to a different machine and loaded them up--everything looks back to normal! No issues at all. Phew! Seems something is wrong on my DIT laptop which I'll just troubleshoot later.

@Justin McAleece, you're absolutely right about the ND. We were just running and gunning so we didnt have time to take out the ND for tha particular shot, but it came out later. :-)

Shooting at shutters higher then 1/120 is a real issues with the dragon at the moment. Jarred said they are working in it and that we should see a solution next week.
