No rules...

But maby things have changed? If it has it would be cool to let everybody know in Recon. Im sure alot of people that cant make it to the event would like to know.
Personally I was looking forward to Zac's covering of the event.

That's what I thought too, but this was what the email said that I just received.

I'll still be covering in on Twitter (@TheDataSierra), but I guess without the pictures now.

Red has done this at past events too but typically only during their screenings, but also during Red Day 2009 in which they had a back room with an Epic demo setup going. Which makes sense so that leaked footage shot from phone cameras doesn't end up online allowing people to judge the footage without seeing it in it's true quality. They also say there will be a few surprises for attendees ;) Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Maybe they will approve one or two people to stream video of the event, not footage, for the ones not able to make it...

In RED's defense, the event is held at a Studio where a lot of Movies/TV shows are captured. I'm sure they just need to reduce the possibly of any liabilities. Streaming the event could possibly really slow down their WiFi, potentially preventing attendees from ordering any RED cameras.

I think that there might be too many risked that they would rather avoid by just having a smart policy in place.

Don't get me wrong. I'm bummed too, but I understand given these reasons.

When we have done the Reduser events in the past, this is generally the rule. There are a number of reasons why, but probably the best way to look at it is it's easier to have a blanket policy of no recording, then to deal with possible ramifications of allowing recording. These things get complex both with people and things. Maybe the policy will be different at this event, but if that is the rule know that it's not necessarily to keep people watching from afar in the dark.

Anthony.

Don't really see any of the technical issues you mention as a factor for not being able to stream from Red Studios.

I was told by some folks who have been to Red Studios that the WiFi is like an Alaskan pipeline in terms of throughput. While not certain, I don't really understand why Red would house their server at the Studio (I don't think they do...?). There are plenty of top tier co-lo spaces with fiber, triple redundancy, fire suppression, etc in Los Angeles. Again, just not sure what kind of set up they have.

If you were using a Tri-caster, you want a cat5 hardline connection sending the signal out. For the Houston Epic event, the team used a simple Business Comcast connection over cable modem - nothing fancy. We estimated there was about a 2 second broadcast latency. All that stuff gets compressed into Adobe Media Encoder before leaving the "box". Keep in mind, we had two Red Ones and 2 other cameras on that stream - worked awesome.

If Ted had been in town for the event tomorrow, I think it could have been a great showcase opportunity. I think just getting a virtual tour of Red Studios would be awesome. I've seen interior pictures pop up before on this board, but I don't think it does justice to just how amazing that place is (yes, a tech geek's paradise).

The announcement is going to be posted.. not "announced".. even at the Studio.

If this still holds true, I think the event may be more of a group experience of the posting. Sounds like there might not be much to stream...other than a lot of really excited people. On second thought, maybe that would be cool to see.

Almost in the home stretch, guys. Dig in.

No surprise there. They were just in the moment a couple weeks ago but cooler heads prevailed. Brand image control is a big deal at this level and certainly on this day. They don't want to leave it to some Joe like me to stream whatever narrative to the world. They will release a single message that supports their vision of the future. Good business that is
