  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

No NAB for RED...

Mike is a big boy and can defend himself especially considering that he has a penchant for putting people where he thinks there place should be.

You know, I reread what I posted and I'm going to go back and eliminate one sentence. You're right, it could be interpreted as personalizing something that did not and should not be personal. I didn't intend it that way, but I can see how one might see it that way. I think the same point is made without the offending sentence.

I apologize if anyone felt offended by it.

Hurt not offended...You show you are a big man for listening with your heart...I love the book! And sorry for being a disrespectful prick...I will willing shut up & listen to the words of wisdom!

Thanks.

DogDay.

P.S.

I delete my nasty stuff too.

Yes...I think it is brilliant. And incredible that a couple of the guys from the book are here sometimes you being one of them.

So I think maybe you need to understand that your words carry weight. And yes it is annoying and frustrating having to slow down and deal with people no where as experienced, but at the end of the day we do have one thing in common and that is that we are all people with feelings...You too.

I thought the book was an exceptional mix of tech talk and practical theory & also had an advanced Artistic feel to it without flipping out and getting to esoteric. I walked away with the impression that the people selected to contribute all had a grasp of principles beyond what meets the eye. Call it taste.

I think Steve did a very good job. This is the second version, and he went through quite a bit of trouble to update it (even emailing the manuscript to those of us who were quoted to see if there was anything we wanted to change from the first version). Particularly considering that he's not a working colorist himself, he really got it right.

I think its a word ( Colorist ) that people bandy about these days and he ( Steve ) conveyed a "Reverence" for the subject and you guys who actually practice The Art & Craft of it Professionally. I guess a healthy dose of admiration went into it, making it a labor of love & that comes through.

There is also an Old School vibe going on thats nice, The quote "At the feet of The Masters" really set the tone. The sense of a Tradition being passed down through a lineage of relationships was captured in some of the passages.

But I am not so sure that making applications available en-mass and publishing books laden with trade secrets will ever make a "Colorist", its like saying I go & buy a Violin and that makes me a Musician let alone a Virtuoso.

By the same token I do think that someone who has "It" has it with or without the dues to show for it ... But those are few and far between and most certainly the exception to the rule ... Marketing is responsible for spreading the notion that anyone can become a Master over night.

Let me justify this tangent NAB NAB NAB,NAB NAB NAB,NAB NAB NAB,NAB NAB NAB, ... Done!

Anyone have an idea when(ball parked) the RED Day with the releases of the new cameras and lot that fun stuff?

Don't wanna be kicked, but i've heard this bs excuse before in my line of work. Blame it on some supplier or whatever. Weren't you guys drooling on the release of a working prototype of Scarlet at NAB? I can't believe how you've just sucked up to this excuse like a bunch of silly lapdogs. This is ridiculous! I wasn't going to NAB this year myself, but was hoping for some positive news about Scarlet come the "promised" date. OMG! Don't hang out here much, but came by to see what was up only to find this poop.

Just a thought: red day on the next blue moon. Nah. Too early. Next blue moon's on May 31st. Perhaps when we see Haley's Comet again - 2061.

hmm

hmm

Well there appears to be a working prototype of scarlet...and there seems to be an exisit body...
so...guess everythings on track for a RED day sometime before June...at least thats my guess, that I'd be before June

We get some pictures, we get some footage (of a weird animal), we get some details on the scarlet and Epic,
and most important… we don't get a mouth like yours :)

Ok maybe the next blue moon.

We still have a ways to go to get everything together, produced, tested, fixed, packaged and ready. This June is too soon, which we have already stated.

Ok you got footage and photos. How do you know it's from a Scarlet and not just from a Red One or a still camera? Details? You can't shoot video with words and 3d renders. Hey, I'm just being the doubting Thomas. Let's see a camera we can buy (excluding the Red One camera) and use and I'll shut up. Personally, I'd love to see a Scarlet with all its glory, but there needs to be a pissed off consumer or two here to put a little urgency to their promises. Frankly, if Red doesn't get it into gear, then someone else will come along and swipe more customers. It's already happened. The clock is ticking. The meter's running. There are deadlines in all business. Jannard says that "everything in life changes", including consumer's attention span. My "mouth" is speaking what others fear to say. Their decision not to go to NAB is of little importance. NAB is expensive and perhaps not worth the effort. Their decision not to start selling or taking orders on a working camera near the promised date is bad business, especially when such hype has been built up over the past several months. Personally, I can't see Jannard going to work tomarrow and not saying just what I've said here.

Whoa. I'm all for informed consumerism...and informed everything for that matter. But you need to do a little deeper digging and realize what kind of timeline were looking at here. RED turns around cameras from R&D to production (ONE, Scarlet, Epic, etc.) faster than most companies out there. And, luckily, I think Jim wants to shoot with these cameras as bad as the rest of us, so I'm sure the urgency is there. Just gotta go with the flow a little bit now. Que sera, será...ya dig?
Peace,

-Harry

All good things to those who wait. And while you're waiting, there's money to be earned with other cameras. There's also scripts that need to be written for your movie once the wait is over. Find something constructive to do and you'll be less frustrated by the delays.

Or, they could just do like every other company and not have told us anything about the new camera's yet.... :)

I said this a little earlier on scarletuser, but I think we all need to remember that being "in the loop" so early in the process is NOT the norm. It's a double edged sword for RED, but if the end consumer can keep this in mind and exercise a bit of patience, I believe we will be rewarded with a better product in the end as a result of having input in the process on at least some level.

And, the decision to not finish the camera on x date, (many would argue) is smart business in the current climate as Jim has already laid out. I'm sure this may be a bit subjective, but Jim is the only one fully equipped to make that decision. It is after all his company, and by and large, most people fully recognize the current situation and appreciate RED being forthcoming about it. As stated, RED went from worrking mad overtime hours, to working regular hours... Meanwhile, most of the "big" companies are laying off 10% of their work force, etc... Granted, I want a camera tomorrow just like a lot folks, but we need to keep things in perspective and compare to what else is going on in the market outside of RED.

later,
Jason

To add a little, the RED team have completely overhauled their entire concept (partially due to this 'in the loop' mentality) and we are in the prospect of getting cameras I couldn't have dreamed of...to own I might add! I here and here to stay. They can take as long as they want...as long as I get a scarlet at the end of the day.

So you can speak for yourself cause its a different language to mine.
