  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

No NAB for RED...

First of all:

Happy New Year!

(as this is my first post this year)

Then there could be Red Days in your english facility?

Emmanuel

I strongly second that interest. If a RED DAY is held, then please make sure there will be one (at least one) in europe as well. Travelling costs will be significantly lower for europeans, and time taken to attend will be drastically shorter - both save us time and money that is better invested in products or life :) these days...

I can understand that move to avoid the expensive exhibition. The RED will be present anyway. I do not see a risk of RED not being there on their own, because so many third parties do like (or love) what RED does so far, so they will spread the word anyway. For the saved money a RED event (or multiple of them around the globe) can be held or at least subventioned. And there is no competition...

Looking forward to the upcoming stuff,
Axel

Party on Anyway

Party on Anyway

We got a great flight and room deal immediately after RED signed up for NAB. Of course we are disappointed, but are thrilled that the delays are being driven by parts vendors rather than design issues, and that RED has scheduling that looks this far ahead. And, the major vendor is being honest about their schedule issues. This is great news.

Looks like we'll be partying more and sleeping in later!

With Scarlet & Epic coming out....why would anyone throw the cash down to buy
anything else right now?

What are the Las Vegas - Red Ranch plans?

Wow. I'm surprised that so many people think that NAB is only worth going because of RED. I've attended many NAB's long before there was RED. Not going because one vendor is not going to be there is crazy. I first found out about RED by attending NAB. And the same goes for so many other products. I wouldn't miss it! Oh...and the networking.

Last year's NAB had something like 120,000 attendees, so while RED may be missed I'm sure there will be plenty to see.

C'mon over to the Abel booth!

But Jim, who's gonna buy me some cake?

Exactly, not every company is as transparent with their roadmap as RED. We really have no idea what else is around the corner about to surprise us.

Jim made my NAB decision with the push of a button. No problems, no worries.

People have offered up suggestions as how to have RED have a presence with out the cost of the tent. I sincerly doubt that the cost of the space is the issue. Jim's words were pretty clear:

RED has decided to skip NAB 2009. We will hold our own RED DAY when we feel we are ready to present the new systems and when they are fully ready to showcase....
...would mean too many non-working prototypes at NAB... which we find unacceptable.
Jim

It's not about price it's that Jim an co are busy working on your next camera.

Aside from that, NAB existed before RED. The first time I saw a techno-crane was at NAB. Or gildecams, or an eQ or a DS|HD. If you are into gear, need new gear or need a cover to get to vegas it is still worth while.

As far as RED DAY goes:

Honey and vinegar.

If you want a RED DAY near you... why not take steps to make it happen. An offer of space and attendees is much more inviting than demands.

3rd party companies will be there.

These are the companies that I've found in the center hall that are all pretty close to one another.

Here's the list with current booth numbers:

Able Cine Tech C8537
Action Products C9647
Air Sea Land Gear C10450
Element Technica C9549
Red Rock Micro C9544
View Factor C9547

Please add to the list as needed.

We plan to be there and plan to support Steve Sherrick, if he still intends to organize another REDUser party.

Bummer, but I'll still be there cuz NAB is fun!

Didn't read the entire thread, but I'm still going to NAB...
I'll miss seeing Red on the floor, but this way I'll have more time for craps!
Steve and crew... I hope we'll still party?

In someway, I'm quite happy that RED won't be there...I love the idea of a RED DAY. I think NAB is a bit of wasted money for vendors...sure its great to promote and talk about your new products. But the last few years, I've been going...most vendors talk trash of our old faithful R1 cam or the joke company RED is. I couldn't believe it. I think most of the vendors thought it would never happen. Jim & co fooled them!!! Ha Ha...!

I always believe RED doesn't need NAB anymore well at least for now. I think Red Day will be much more of an experience for us and newcomers going since it will probably be bigger (meaning the tent) more cameras, more equipment, maybe third party vendors will be there promoting their gear and new stuff to us with hopefully a discount...Hint Hint...!!! More of a community of RED filmmakers with possibly seminars, screenings, and just good whole some fun with RED PARTIES...

I'm not sure I will be going this year too...in the last few years...I've haven't been impressed with some of the vendors reps...like they are too good for you to buy or use. Quite a few "Major" vendors were like that to me and my colleagues barely getting a chance to talk or word in about their new products. I always joke to some of these vendors who gave me the time of day discussing their great products or just rapping about this venue was I'm going to bring my father dressed in a suit and let's see the Reps hover around him trying to make a deal.

Looking forward toward RED DAY...

You're harshing my NAB buzz

You're harshing my NAB buzz

RED and NAB have been a potent mixture the last 3 years. All due respect to RED's considered decision, it does feel like the RedUser community has lost something of value. I have been to a dozen NABs and the RED roadshow added a spark I will miss.

This is not uncommon all over right now, given the sinking economy, ll major vendors are either canceling or greatly scaling back their convention offerings.

Plus aren't we all tired of the "waiting til NAB" before I buy something mantra?

RED taking a page from Apple's Steve Jobs and holding their own "conference" is smart thinking. me likey

Guys remember that IBC in Amsterdam is in September - around the time that prototypes and actual product might be available for Red to show.

It's like a mini-NAB, but European. So therefore a bit cooler.

When will Red Day become a National Holiday?

Should be an European RED DAY too... Somewhere in the middle. Prague, maybe...
in the middle.. in the middle of what?.. :)
