  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

No more Avid DS development - 4K on it's way

Hopefully sooner than later. The two quotes from Avid seem to suggest it is still very early stages and are "exploring" methods. Design, engineering, implementation, and delivery still need to be done.

I know Avid is recommending using a combination of Eyeone Fusion and MC/Symphony. But, FWIU, AVX2 does not allow for accessing source clips, just segments on the timeline. If true, this is a serious limitation to plugin development for MC/Symphony.

And it is a limitation that, according to comments by Michael Cioni of Light Iron, FCPX does not have.

Most NLEs are what I describe as "prominant timelines with background databases."
What FCP-X brings to the market is a prominant database and asset manager that happens to display assets in a timeline. Whether or not you feel FCP-X is the best tool for the job of editorial, I can say with certainty that the unique relationship of "a prominant database over a timeline" is the core architecture *ALL* NLEs will adopt in the coming years. It's because of this "power under the hood" development strategy Apple has deployed on FCP-X that we can innovate in ways we were previously unable to for NLEs. Companies like MotionVFX (www.motionvfx.com) are just one of the brilliant groups leveraging the API available in FCP-X just like the thousands of developers for the iTunes App Store.

Fusion is an incredibly powerful VFX software that puts Media Composer on steroids. It's fair to say that a combo of MC and Fusion allows type of work that even the DS would not be able to do. However, an important thing is that they are still two separate applications and that Media Composer is resolution locked at maximum 1920x1080.

I have been getting into Fusion with the AVX Outsource plug-in as it is very powerful, but it's interchange with MC is limited to the 1080 resolution. it would be nice to have the ability for Fusion to reference back to the orignal file as the SOurce Path is in the bin (assuming no one changed location of original camera files).
