  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

No cuda/mercury for AE cs5!!

I thought Adobe already stated that the mercury engine wont be available for AE, i think that was last year and i forgot which post indicated this. But this is to be expected..Adobe never said anything about mercury engine for AE.

I just cant believe that they still dont have "cache to disk" function.

Kind of a glaring oversight, eh? Especially when RAM previews get thrown out if you think about them too hard.

You can always do it manually, but that sucks.

Much faster...

Much faster...

AE is a very different software than PPro. CS 5 is much much faster all around though and you can now do a ton more with 64 bits. We worked extremely hard on the MP performance and it is noticeable.

Cheers

that's pretty much what rendering is... but i do get what you're saying.

i think we will see significant speed improvements in this version though... i'm not too concerned because i hardly ever use it for anything personally. i'd like to check out those new roto tools though... they would at least be a good place to start doing roto work!

I hope with the 64bit implementation, this would not be a problem.

The workflow becomes painful when the RAM is not sufficient to cache. This is where cache to disk becomes useful is such situation.

The roto tool looks cool.

In day-in-day-out use, stability is a very important factor of experienced speed! Loosing work or even footage can easily ruin any speed gains from a GPU…
That said, AE is much more stable with huge images like 4K with clean 64 bit memory management. I think Adobe did the right thing leaving 32 bit behind. But speeding dozens of layers in a compositing environment by GPU is very different from a few layers in an editing environment…

Mercury is the marketing name for the whole CUDA + 64 Bit thing, not GPU acceleration alone.
