Update, 99% of my problems went away when my six foot drive cable did I had swopped it out with 18inch ones several times but somehow the problem slipped under the net.

Camera faith restored, case solved!

Was it a specific faulty six foot cable? Or is there a generic problem with this cable length?

That's interesting. A few of you may be old enough to remember that 90% of mac problems in the OS6-7-8 days were due to bad or loose SCSI cables. Computers are systems, and the connections within those systems can bring down the house. Good for us to remember in the field.
