Hello,

We are in the middle of production for a small short film. We only have a team of five and our Audio guy fell ill and dropped out for the remainder of the shoot. We don't have anyone that can fluently use the 664 and would like to just run audio right into the red we have the 3.5 to XLR cord and have attempted to use a Sennheiser Mk416, we haven't been able to get any levels at all, we thought maybe the camera could only work with a mic with it's own Phantom Power. So we got an AudioTenchnica shotgun mic with it's own power. Still no luck, we went back and checked the audio settings on the camera our source was CAM ANALOG with Gain Sliders and Volume sliders with 48V and Limiter Enabled. All levels are maxed out on the audio settings. So with all this being done we still can't get any audio. Is there a setting where not seeing that should be checked?

Thanks!

You mention a "3.5mm to XLR cord". The cable required by RED is pretty unique. Unless you obtained that cable specifically for this use it may not be correct.

This thread has some details on this.

that's too bad, we received the cord with the Red package that we rented out, we assumed it would work but maybe the rental company doesn't know about this, looking by this diagram though it looks like ours is balanced.

One other thing, if you are recording at a frame rate that does not match the project frame rate, no audio is recorded. For example for a project of 23.98fps you need a shot frame rate of the same.

A very good point. The frame rate will be highlighted yellow yo indicate the discrepancy.

Wooden camera A box works good to if you have one.

I would be very careful "just" running audio into an Epic or Scarlet camera. It can be done with acceptable results but audio really isn't RED's strength. I always run a small mini-plug microphone as a scratch recording, but only when we need a really quick turnaround do I use the RED's audio as the record source.

Good luck!
